beretta m9 d spring vs competition spring?

The D spring will significantly lighten the feel of the gun in DA mode. I have not had the opportunity to try out a competition spring, although I have heard rumors (so take it with a grain of salt) that they can result in light-strikes when used in conjunction with certain ammo manufacturers.

      What's your next gun purchase?

I'm split between either a 10-22 Takedown, or a S&W 1911 E Series. If I decide on the latter, I may actually go through the hassle of getting a HQL.

My family and I will still shop Engage

9mm: Federal AE or Speer Lawman

Just wanted to point out that on CCI's website, they say that the Speer Lawman rounds have similar weight/velocity to their Gold Dot counterparts, which allow for more realistic training (if you load GDs in your HD gun).

      Looking for a mentor

Please note that I have never hunted/fished in MD/East Coast, so I can only give you some general suggestions from doing so out West. If I say anything that is wrong/can be improved upon, please point it out because I'm in no way an expert. Hunting: 1. Firearm You'll want a firearm that...

      Thanks for the great service!

First, I wanted to say thanks for the awesome service this last Saturday! I also wanted to say thanks for the great advice I got on extending the life of my sidearm - it's great to find people that truly care about their customers (and their customers' firearms).

Finally got my Beretta 96 on the range and have come to the realization that...

While I haven't shot a 96 (I have a 92A1), here are a couple of things that may help your groupings: 1) Replace the factory-standard spring with a "D" spring - it will reduce the pull weight for the trigger and only costs $5. 2) Kind of "cheating", but if you want to be sure it's the gun -...

has anyone defended themselves with a knife?

Of all the fights I've been in, I'm lucky in that none of them have involved knives. That said, I was mugged at knife-point when I was 13... I was visiting my family in NYC (home of ridiculous laws meant to oppress the law-abiding; they're going particularly crazy over "locking" knives), and...

Handgun for the Wife - Please Make Sure I'm Not Missing Anything!

Good to know - thanks for the info about the palm swell! I'll hunt around to see if I can find one that she can handle. Thanks for the vote for the P30! She may actually like the ambi controls if she gets around to taking her family to a range (they're almost all lefties). I know exactly...

Handgun for the Wife - Please Make Sure I'm Not Missing Anything!

Will do  While the 84 is definitely stylish, we're focus primarily on 9mm; I talked to her and she said that she would prefer a firearm currently in production. Thanks for the info though - I'll definitely remember the 84 when I get a chance to look into .380! I talked to the...

Handgun for the Wife - Please Make Sure I'm Not Missing Anything!

Thanks for your votes! I'll look into what you mentioned about the XDs. Due to our location, we have access to pretty much everything on the list (with a few exceptions - ie, thumb-safety version) and we're happy to travel to non-local IPs that may have something in-stock. We already had a...

Handgun for the Wife - Please Make Sure I'm Not Missing Anything!

Will do - I'll look into S&W revolvers and possibly the Rugers. I'll go over it with her and see what she has to say. As for the strip-type loaders, I actually saw something different (although I have been unable to locate an image). Essentially it's a thin plastic ring that holds the rounds by...

Handgun for the Wife - Please Make Sure I'm Not Missing Anything!

You're talking about wresting the revolver on the wrist of her weak hand, as it holds the flashlight, correct? Would that take more wrist-strength than an isosceles stance? Besides S&W and possibly Colt, are there any other revolver brands that you would suggest? I looked briefly into Chiappa...

Handgun for the Wife - Please Make Sure I'm Not Missing Anything!

I didn't know that the SR9 had this level of user-customization; that's great news as it gives her room to modify the gun to fit her needs! How easy is it to take-down and clean? As its a SF, does it require special cleaning (my 92 is fine with being hosed with Ballistol but I know you can't do...

Handgun for the Wife - Please Make Sure I'm Not Missing Anything!

Good to know, thanks! I'll look at both the S&W 627PC and the S&W M&P R8 - thank you for the suggestions! A couple of questions (as I'm completely clueless about revolvers), if you'd please enlighten me: 1. From what I remember, you don't want to put your hands/fingers too close to the...

Handgun for the Wife - Please Make Sure I'm Not Missing Anything!

Definitely solid advice - she will be holding, and then shooting, every gun on the finalized list prior to any purchase decision. I'm trying to come up with a list of guns for her to try out so I can figure out who rents them/sells them and because I want to make sure I'm not excluding a gun...

Handgun for the Wife - Please Make Sure I'm Not Missing Anything!

Thanks - I've added the CZ-P09 to the list! I have the feeling she'll eventually get over the desire for an external safety - I really think the most she would need is a decocker. She hasn't really given me a good rationale as to her need for an external safety, but she strongly wants one. My...

Handgun for the Wife - Please Make Sure I'm Not Missing Anything!

So my wife has started discussing what she wants in a side-arm, and she's left it up to me to draw up a list of possible firearms for her to consider. As I'm a relative novice with firearms myself, I'm trying to do the leg-work and ensure that I include a good selection that meets her criteria...

      "Choose Civility" crap spreading...

While I think a preacher sanctimonious bumper sticker is in poor taste, and I can't comment on the anti-2A origins of it, I don't have a problem with the list. Most of it just tells people not be act like *ssholes to other people. Here's the list rewritten (it's still saying the same thing)...
