what is your definition of cheap?
Kel Tec makes < $700 rifles. never fired one, so can't comment on quality, etc. Also, I'm not sure if they are 223 or 556. i'd assume 5.56 (does anyone make just .223 anymore?) If I remember right, 5.56 rounds are capable of putting out higher pressure than .223 rounds (same sizes, different pressure specs). |

You might have to go to a bolt-action for that price, but who wants a .223 bolt? So, try gunbroker, or look for someone selling a used rifle. I got the Ruger Mini-14 Tactical I have (new) for $695, which is $200 under MSRP, and it's one of the lowest priced .223s. The Ranch model is a little lower too, so maybe about $650. If you are willing to pay that price or something close to it, contact Mike @ Mid-County Gunshop on the Eastern Shore. He might make you a deal if he still has them in stock. Info is in the Dealer Connection forum.

If you're open to the suggestion of a single shot, you can get below $300 with an H&R

you might be able to afford an upper, or a lower with lpk and stock, but not a whole rifle for that price.

+1 on the Saiga 223 . I bought mine 3 weeks ago, although used but still looked good for 330. I just changed the stock to a Tapco tactical and order a 20 round mag

Ignore the sneer's of the people carrying the AR's, but you can sling a whole bunch of Wolf ammo down range without cleaning it after every 20 rounds.

The mags on the Siaga and Mini-14 will be the kicker theough. Remington makes a pump action that will take STANAG mags for the AR 15.

if you're going low on the gun i can't imagine what you're willing to pay for ammo. remember. the gun is the cheap part.

Mini-14 is probably the way to go. 4-6 hundred for an older standard model.

They are right that budget isnt going to get you much. Might get you into a Kel-tec Sub 16 but probably not in this climate.
Have you considered the Remington 7615? It is a pump action but very compact and fast handling. Frankly I am as comfortable with it as I am with my AR for firepower in most situations, plus it takes AR mags. If you watch gunbroker Grices Gunshop in PA posts them frequently for just under $500. Great all around gun, probably will get another one myself. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=127932161 |

That .223 saiga looks way more fun than a mini14! I might try to find myself one of those. How much should i expect to pay used and new?
