A 64 is a K frame 38 special, A 36 is a J frame..

The 64 is the Stainless .38 version of the model 10. The 36 or "Chief Special" is the blued 2" .38 special.

my model 36 is either stainless of dipped in nickel - not sure...it's dated as manufactured between 1960 and 1965 (and very beautiful). thanks for letting me know.
