i hate to be a negative nelly, but i tend to agree. the money for baltimore schools was the payola for the gun bill IMO. Baltimore city schools are "graduating" 00s of gang members a year. Do BC delegates really think gun control will stop the shooting? no. But they can say that they got money for schools and "tried' to stop the availability of guns - and hope their constituents will look past this.

Depending on how the final bill looks, a watered down bill can be worse than no bill because it can be harder to challenge. I am getting more pessimistic by the day, i almost wish for a really bad and easy to challenge bill at this point.

Not necessarily. Just because you challenge does not mean you win. But if you win with a watered down bill you also take out any other stronger legislation. If a strong bill is struck then next year we will fight a slightly weaker bill.

A bill we can live with, even if it holds up is still better. Especially if the stronger bill might survive a challenge..

The constitution is one thing and the courts opinions are another. So why give the court or a future less agreeable one more to approve.

Try to see the good in every outcome because there is good in every outcome ;) or a worst less bad;)

Competitive shooters are not the enemy here fella's. We are all on the same side. Every chip we can take away from this legislation helps our cause as a whole. Every sound reason we demonstrate to them helps whether it be competition, hunting, self defense, etc. Not every reason or use can be demonstrated by each individual in the limited time available for testimony. It is all part of the whole picture. Stand together!

All it means is that you need to compete not that you need to win...;)

    Here's to us all.

When I was living in Germantown, I wrote Garagiola about the the assault weapon bill that was proposed in 2008 and he wrote me stating that he was opposed to it. Wonder what made him change his mind over 5 or so years. I figured he was going to be trouble. Anybody that has a political agenda is going to be trouble versus people that truly have the best interest of the country at heart.

Garagiola was the chief sponsor of the 2004 AWB back in the day. He thought his Army credentials would make it a shoo-in. He was wrong.

    Perhaps Dumais learned Garagiola's lesson?

A degree from Catholic University, and member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. - He should be a Preacher, not a politician.

All this Catholic education and religion, but yet he supports the right to abortion and opposes the death penalty based on religious beliefs. How is that for hypocritical.

Seems off topic, but is not..... When is the Naval Academy graduation?

According to the Maryland Constitution, "All bills passed during a regular or special session shall be presented to the Governor for his approval no later than 20 days after adjournment. Within 30 days after presentment, if the Governor approves the bill, he shall sign the same in the presence of the presiding officers and Chief Clerks of the Senate and House of Delegates."

Obama is slated to give the commencement speech at the Naval Academy graduation. Seems like a good day to pat him on the back since he'll be there any way.

    Sen. Garagiola surely didn't listen...

Hopefully western Maryland will not forget that next time he wants to go after Delaney's House seat.

You're right he didn't. I don't know where Delaney stands on AWB, but my folks (conservative Democrats) sure as hell liked him a lot more than Garigiola, O'Malley's chosen son.

    We told Gar to GTFO!

Possibly. I can say from firsthand experience after having met Owe'Malley a number of times that IMO he's an empty suit - he has a lot of personal charisma, and the lights are on, but nobody's home.

I don't know if it's just a star-power thing with him and he's been able to ride his natural charisma to the lead seat in Maryland, or if he has some political savy, but I have actually heard him referred to by national news networks as a rising star in the Democratic party. Stranger things have happened though - look who is occupying the WH now.

I just have a gut feeling that things are starting to turn where guns are concerned. It's pretty clear that by and large the people of this country don't believe for a second that additional laws are going to have any kind of meaningful impact on gun related crime, simply put because criminals don't care about the law.

Its Maryland folks. I tell you he will look small next to Cuomo. Who is also very left nationally. If I were placing bets I would say that the Democratic machine is lining up easy compares to make Hillary look moderate nationally ;).

I think if Cuomo runs he takes out mom very early. Hillary is the wild card. Seriously take a look at the resume and political dynasty of the Cumos hint he married a Kennedy.

I leave it to the ladies to judge but take a look at Cuomo and tell me he does not a have a big edge on Mom in the looks department.

It is incredibly obvious who is running for a higher office through all of this. All of the Dem Governors are having a huge pissing contest with our Constitution on the wall.

Edit that to say "All of the Dems"

U.S Rep. Delaney stated in the Herald-Mail he supports Obama's plan on limits on the 2nd amendment. He is voting the Demo party line. Can you believe this guy represents western MD?

One word comes to mind... Gerrymander.

Delaney does not represent me or others I know... and certainly not as a catholic. He's for abortion and denying me my God-given rights. What a clown. I will continue to hassel this imbecile to make sure he knows he was elected only b/c someone gerrymandered the districts.... and that he will be gone if he doesn't shape up.

    And two words....Martin O'Malley.

I am exploring a run against Delaney in 2014 but money will be an issue.

Money is always an issue. That is what bugs me about campaign financing. The rich like Bloomberg and the NRA can buy seats. You either have to be entirely on one side of the aisle or the other to get funding. Complete BS.

We need an amendment just for campaign financing so people that are not uber rich can actually run for office and the rest of these morons no longer get all the wooing that they do from big money people and corporations. $15,000 a plate dinner. PLEASE.
