Sigh. This is the one that got away before FSA2013. Maybe when I retire to a free state I can buy one.
I got lucky and got one before the ridiculous ban. Have it set up as my home defense and PDW. For that role, I like it better then my AR.
Here's an early pic, since any AUG thread needs a photo or two!

I don't understand the AUG love on here, and as I've mentioned, I currently own both the AUG A3 and a Tavor and have pretty significant trigger time behind both. Maybe I have different priorities.
The AUG has a quick-change barrel, but I've NEVER used that other than for maintenance purposes or cheap party tricks, where it is nice, but hardly a game changer. I've yet to hear of someone who claims they made a habit of swapping AUG barrels on the range, or even in combat. Admittedly, you can convert it to left-handed ejection easily... trade-off being that you don't get a matching right-hand side charging handle, and you don't get to use AR magazines in lefty mode. The Tavor is slower to convert, but winds up in a true lefty config when you're done.
The Tavor has a much better magazine release, and, IMHO, a much more usable selector for people raised on ARs. I'm not a big fan of the Tavor's bolt-release, but 99% of the time, I just use the charging handle (conveniently located right where I need to put my support hand anyways). I also think the balance is much better, with the weight of the gun in the back. Did anyone mention that the Tavor has tritium factory BUIS, whereas the AUG has no BUIS? That was one of the reasons I used a TA01NSN on my A3, so that I'd have some backup irons.
Can't say I've had that issue with the Tavor or the AUG. In my experience, cheek weld issues on the Tavor tend to be related to optic height. You want to use optics that are at "1/3 AR-15 co-witness height" on the Tavor... if you go lower, you'll have trouble smushing your cheek against the rifle to get low enough to see through the optic.
Yeah, I'll dig them both out of the safe tonight and you can see the side-by-side. Much as I rag on the AUG in this thread, it's really a nice enough rifle; I just think it has not aged as well as some people claim it has, and that there is a reason you don't see most new military rifle systems bothering with some of the AUG features that people hype up... which is that they're not really as useful as claimed.Yes, that and the shape. Do you have a pic of your Tavor/Optic setup you can share?

personal preference?I don't understand the AUG love on here, and as I've mentioned, I currently own both the AUG A3 and a Tavor and have pretty significant trigger time behind both. Maybe I have different priorities.
I liked the rifle when I first saw it but I chose a M1a National Match over it. Different caliber but still dollars in the late 80's. Never regretted it.
It's hard to be objective when you don't own both, because there's always some part of you trying to justify buying one over the other when you don't own both.personal preference?
...but i have an AUG and no Tavor for some reason.

to be honest, what i'm really saying is that between the two of them, i bought the one i prefer (that was the reason). true, i'll justify my purchase, but i'm also not going to buy the one i like less just to make my choice more unimpeachable, you know? It's hard to be objective when you don't own both, because there's always some part of you trying to justify buying one over the other when you don't own both.
