Patuxent SP was swarmed yesterday. Went in early and fairly deep, only saw a fox. By late afternoon 330 or 4pm when I was getting optimistic had a "still" hunter come by... including one who saw my setup from back behind and then basically walked a grid pattern 50yd by 150yd in front of me.
I...
Am I missing something - nobody under 18 without hunter safety certificate? Yet, having taking the hunter safety course, you are required to shoot (barely) proficiently at the field day...
How is one supposed to teach their kid to shoot safely?

Looks like rain this week rather than the little bit of snow that I was hoping for to help with last minute scouting mid-week since I haven't been out for a month and change... Empty freezer and hoping to get something done on Friday/Saturday.
On the bright side, I'll be sighting in new 350...
If I try and show up tomorrow or Sunday, do there still tend to be crowds this late in the year, so I better shoot for opening bell, or are things a bit calmer?

Long shot, but anybody got a spot on private where I could bring a kid to sit next to me? Flame away if I'm out of line to ask, or PM to talk about it. Mainly hoping to at least see some does - even if I'm lining something up for late gun season at this point.
I've brought a kid out on public...
Missed all of firearm season thus far, after having to miss the rut for archery... But I'm hoping to get out mornings and nights on some PG public land starting Monday and drag a kid or two to sit in a pop-up blind so wish us luck.
I'm hoping to at least SEE some deer so they're not bored outta...
It's in the MD southern region public lands wma packet, when you sign up for the public lands permit (free) there are a variety of draws for some of the more popular public lands and days.

And I think that long range shooting has gotten a lot more popular - or at least the idea that you might do it at some point... Just look at the flat shooting "newer" magnum rounds or 6.5 creed taking off at least in part because of a lot of talk about long range.
So I think (whether it'll ever...
I haven't been in a store in awhile, but is 22lr having the same issues?
I don't know why that one would be getting the big hoarding bump but since you can't find a 22 rifle new in stock most places, maybe there is the same issue?
I'll hopefully need some squirrel whacking rounds soon.

I've had good luck with the Wheeler and it's been "close enough" to spendy snap on type torque wrenches. Plus I feel like getting equal torque on your rings or receivers various fasteners is more important than whether the wrench drifted 10% from 22lbs to 24.2lbs. Within tolerances enough for my...
I'm curious too, mostly to learn the ropes with ducks.
Understandably, most people don't really want a stranger tagging along to their spot and carrying a firearm to boot.

I looked into this in PG County and couldn't find anything prohibiting it. That said, I don't trust my neighbors and don't have a good shooting direction so I generally stick to shooting down my driveway into the garage when the coast is clear.

Dunno if you fixed this or not, but worst case I can press your bow (portable press) and tie in a peep for ya.
Not that hard, and you can always refer to YouTube, but assuming the actual bowstring is ok, there shouldn't be any issues.
