Sit down and watch a bunch of videos from The Hunting Public and the Hunting Beast. Listen to countless deer hunting podcasts and end up overthinking everything.
I'd wait until after a rain when you can sneak in close, assuming the wind is in your favor, and hunt a trail coming out of the...
Another saddle hunter here. I've done it for a couple of years. The system (saddle, platform, climbing sticks) is more compact going through the woods than my climber. I'm always attached to the tree (i.e. safe) and it's pretty dang comfortable. I shoot my bow really well from the saddle...
I think that's what I'm going to do. We stocked up with enough stuff to last is a while but I'm a little concerned with things unprotected from pests (rice, snacks for kids, crackers, etc). Square cat litter buckets would work perfectly.
Plenty of blue and channel cats up and around Jug Bay, in addition to snakehead. It's the usual freshwater contingent of fishes. I'd stay south of Benedict's for crabbing. The DNR website has a map of public ramps to check out.
Tons of largemouth are around the shoreline at Smallwood State Park. There are snakeheads and blue catfish, too. The area to the left of the ramps is popular for shoreline anglers. There should be bass and some decent panfish (redear, pumpkinseed, bluegill) in the marina area along the riprap...
Thanks for the insight, Norton. I'm happy to see this is being done (and you can't argue with "run like hell"). I know the odds of an event happening are low, but I like seeing this. Realistically, self-defense isn't much of an option for a bunch of little kids...
I've been hunting since I was 12 and hope to pass it on to my boys (currently 3 and 5). It's going to be tough considering where we live, culture and society, etc.
But to your point, you're absolutely right. Other user groups are going to have to pony up funds in order to maintain what we...
I'm fairly certain you're mistaken. It has everything to do with outdated, unnecessary blue laws and resistance from certain user-groups (e.g., equestrians). If hunting pressure via Sunday hunting increased enough to appreciably increase harvest, bag limits would be adjusted. It blows my mind...
There's a group of young guys producing content in YouTube called The Hunting Public. Check them out. They're doing a series about scouting public land now, with a new video released every few days or so.

Just finished fishing the creek behind the house with my almost 3 and almost 5 year olds. Had a blast in the sand and mud as usual, but caught our first smallmouth (6 incher) back there. I was more stoked than the kids.
