      full lenght guide rod or not?

      i have a RIA 1911, it does not have a full lenght guide rod (GI guide rod i guess) i was woundering if there are any advantages that would make it worth attempting to get one , or are there more advatages to the short guide rod, or is it really a thing of just personal taste.
