I’m kind of in the same boat and have my son shooting a compound but until he can pull at least 40, we take out a crossbow I picked up. He wants to join when I go bowhunting, so this allows him to join me in the woods.
how quickly did it go those 40 yards? Even on my perfect shot deer it takes a little while for the blood to really start flowing. I’m using Iron will s125 crazy sharp.
you should be able to find a like new but used bear cruzr or diamond edge for that price. Hopefully you can get one with ready to shoot, with sight and rest. Check Craigslist even.
Don't get stuck on a particular brand, lots of quality bows out there. I would stick with used, although not the best for smaller businesses. If you decide to go new go to autumn sky or Lancaster and get set up perfect. Just like anything used you never truly know what you are getting, but...
