Love a wood fire when I can get one going! However, so many of the NPS areas ban wood fires during the summer months. The dry conditions and fire danger can be way to high. For as long as I've been hiking, NPS has banned wood fires over 10k feet out in the Sierra Nevadas.
I have 1000+ miles of back country hiking logged within our National Park system. For most of them I carried, and still use to this day, this exact setup.

There's a single vendor there with two spots that sells ammo by the case. In particular, they sell ammo by this company: https://www.defenderammunition.com/
I've shot through my first case of 9mm subs and 45 ACP, and can honestly say the stuff is amazing. Groups consistently shoots clean, and...
Just beginning to start thinking about the early stages of considering the possibility of eventually getting to the point of owning a transferable machine gun...
TLDR - Looking at an M11
Specifically an M11 9mm that would later be fixed up with some Lage Manufacturing parts. Would the folding...
I've flown in/out of DCA with a checked handgun. Here's my advice...
1. Drive around, not through.
2. Arrive AT LEAST two hours early. I was escorted from the check-in counter to a special area and had to wait until inspectors opened and cleared my firearm/case as safe.
3. Make sure you have a...
Like outrider stated, unnecessary weight and the cleaning factor.
You certainly can run a 556 suppressor on a pistol, but it isn't ideal. Most sealed cans would foul incredibly fast w/ 22LR.
Went today from Noon-5PM. There were some decent deals to be had! Picked up some Underwood 50AE and a box of 700g 500 S&W Mag to strengthen my wrist. Got a killer deal on a new Benchmade too.
Picked up a sealed case of Defender brand (USA made) 147g 9mm subs to try out. Got home and couldn't...
That might be because firearm theft is way up in recent Nations Gun Show history. Last show I attended a woman came over the loud speaker and warned vendors that they just caught someone stealing a gun and to be watchful of inventory.
Brand loyalty to SiCo aside... I truly think an Omega 46 (plus a few end caps) and Sparrow 22 would give you nearly everything you're looking for.
I shoot .223/5.56 from my Hybrid 46 with a Bravo .224 end cap and it sounds comparable to a dedicated .556 can. Also ran it on the end of an...
Just when 9mm is coming back down to planet earth, I pickup a few guns that are reminders that ammo is expensive. 45ACP is still high, 50AE is plain stupid, and now 44-40 is $$$ if you can even find it!
Can't thank the community enough! Lots of PMs and replies. Found a local source and picked up 150 rounds. I'll surely keep the brass for possible reloading later on.
Good question. This is for a lever action 1892, and I'm looking for target loads. Shooting it just for an original Western experience in a caliber that was correct for the time.
Looking for a local source for 44-40 ammo!
Didn't think it would be this hard to find, but the usual online sources like Midway, Brownells, etc. are out. Even some of the specialty cowboy action sites are out too.
Any tips for finding some local, or IPs/vendors that have 44-40 in-hand?
Currently waiting on 8 cans.
