      Hornady Announcement "This Changes Everything"

These new polymer tips will take a lot of the variation due to ammo out of bench rest shooting matches. I guess if I have bad group sizes with this ammo, its going to be my fault. Hmmm, going to have to find a new excuse! :-)

FastFire III shuts off firing .44 mag rounds

I recently installed a Burris FastFire III on a S&W Precision Center Model 629 .44 magnum revolver. When I shoot .44 SPL rounds, the FastFire III works flawlessly. When I shoot .44 magnum rounds, the FastFire III periodically shuts off. Sometimes it takes a minor tap or two before it turns...

Which 17HMR - Ruger American or Savage 93?

Definitely Savage. I've been shooting my 93R17 in Monumental's benchrest league this summer. It shoots incredibly well at 50 yds (best 5 shot group was .162" at 50 yds).

URGENT - Anyone with a CPFCU Trust Acct - MUST READ NOW

I had M&T mark as inactive both my private and business savings accounts. They didn't send me any notices ahead of time. They never notified me that they took my private savings account, however, they did call after they took the business savings account. I had to file forms with M&T to get...

Culver City Becomes California’s First City To Use Smart911

If you check the firearms located in the house check-box, does that mean a SWAT team raids your home for a barking dog complaint?

Advice Needed For Redding Reloading Dies

I have Redding competition bushing die sets in .308 and .243, and a .44 SPL/Magnum carbide die set. Overall, I think they are great. No problems using them with my Lyman turret press. I particularly like the competition bullet seating dies, and I like the ability to adjust the neck sizes...

      Vision issues and shooting

t84a, I had cataract surgery on both eyes last September. My left eye is now 20/20 and my right eye is better than 20/25. Although this sounds perfect, I am now farsighted and cannot focus my eyes on handgun sights without glasses. I found that for my eyes, +1.0 reading glasses give me...

      IWI Tavor Special (MD Version)

If you wish to clean the chamber area behind the locking lugs and gas cylinder head, make sure you also buy the Tavor barrel wrench (~$14.95). I've fired ~1500 rounds through my Tavor and I've noticed carbon build up on the gas cylinder head that general cleaning has not been removing. It...

      IWI Tavor Special (MD Version)

They are actually quite fun to shoot. All the weight seems to be situated in the rear. Very little felt recoil or muzzle rise. Controls are convenient once you get used to their locations. Only negative is the ~11lb trigger pull with the factory trigger. This can be reduced to ~8lb by...

Madison's original text for the second amendment.

I agree. Both clauses of this proposed amendment clearly dealt with personal rights.

Madison's original text for the second amendment.

http://www.constitution.org/bor/amd_jmad.htm James Madison originally proposed 20 amendments to the Constitution as the Bill of Rights. 10 were initially adopted by Congress and two were later adopted. His original text for what became the second amendment is very revealing of his views on...

Case Lube Spray, does it have to come off after resizing?

If you re-tumble after full length resizing to remove the lube, make sure you double check that the flash holes are not blocked by the media. Normally the decapping pin gets rid of the media during the resizing, but re-tumbling can clog the holes up again.

Anyone use the Hornady Lock-N-Load Auto Charge Powder Dispenser?

I use a Lyman Gen6 automated dispenser. Automated dispensers are nice but they often vary by more than +/- .1 grain. Due to this, I let the automated dispenser measure out the powder, then I transfer the powder to a Gempro 250 scale for trickling and final measuring. The Gempro 250 has +/-...

How to buy a pistol for my wife

Your wife needs to take a basic pistol class and obtain her own HQL. Then she needs to go to an indoor range such as On Target and try different guns. She needs to consider grip, easy of racking the slide, recoil, trigger pull, sight picture and the weight of the gun loaded. Will she be able...

Something up with S&W Shield in .40? KABOOM!

After looking at the photos, it appears that the round experienced a case / head separation when the round fired. If you remove the slide from the Shield or other striker based handgun, place a round in the chamber with the breach closed, then examine the breach area with a magnifier, you will...

      Remington vs Savage

The Accutrigger on Savage rifles really is outstanding. They have an adjustable trigger pull to meet your individual preferences and can be as sensitive as 8 oz total pull (I keep mine set to 1 lb pull each). Don't get mislead though about the scope being bore sighted. That just means you...

      Friend going out of state

A friend of mine is getting ready to go to a flight school outside of Maryland for about a half year and has a number of rifles and handguns that need to be stored while she is gone. She won't be maintaining an apartment in Maryland while she is away although she will still be a legal Maryland...

      Keyholing in my new rifle

Personally, I would just try a different brand of ammo before thinking the rifling or crown are bad. Maybe what you were shooting had light loads and didn't obtain a fast enough muzzle velocity to stabilize. Just try different ammo before you get all freaked out.
