      Charging Handles

I managed to break the charging handle on my DPMS AR308 upper. No problem, I'll just pick up a new one, right? Boy, was I surprised at the range of prices for them. What more can a $100+ handle do that a $20 - $30 handle can't? Besides not break as easily - and it didn't break "easily." :D...

      Looking for recommended digital calipers

The Mitutoyo Digimatic arrived yesterday. I haven't had much time with it but, it's heavier & sturdier than the HF and Husky ones I have. And, more importantly it returns consistent measurements, holds zero, and doesn't keep switching to mm. That's what I was asking for. We'll see how it...

      Looking for recommended digital calipers

Every model I've looked at has received excellent reviews. I'm pulling the trigger. Thanks!

      Looking for recommended digital calipers

I'm sold on the Mitutoyo, both from the recommendations from you guys and the on-line reviews. There are a lot of models; is this the Mitutoyo part number of the one you're using? Mitutoyo 500-171-30 Thanks

      Looking for recommended digital calipers

My Husky digital calipers are driving me crazy. Zero has to be reset constantly and it keeps switching from inches to mm. Fresh battery made no difference. I don't need F Class precision gear, but something that isn't going to be driving me crazy. Thanks

      Steel Target Quiz

MEGARMS - No problem, I totally understand - I'm on the Board of my community association, I know how much time volunteer work takes. And - I passed! Only took 5 tries. Would have been 4 tries if I hadn't made an obvious mistake on the 4th. Thanks!

      Steel Target Quiz

I'm now recording my responses. If I do this correctly I'll get 100% within 2 more rounds. Tomorrow.

      Steel Target Quiz

I'm not going to suggest that I'm the smartest guy in the room, or that I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express Inn last night. But I do usually "test" very well. Until now. I can't get through the Steel Target Quiz, even doing it "open book". Are there trick questions in here that I'm just not...

      Squirrel problem

We'll be picking up the wife's Accord later today from Annapolis Honda. They replaced vacuum and fuel lines the squirrels chewed through. I went out to the car last Friday, smelled gas, didn't think much of it as a large, old work truck was idling not far away. Started the car and then...

      2020 Stripers/Rock Fish

Today I've seen at least a dozen boats heading down Stoney Creek to the Bay. Some of them even looked like they might be going fishing. When the weather finally breaks for good I'm hoping for massive civil disobedience, at least on the water. I'm going to take the cover off my boat this...

      Ospreys are back

The ospreys showed up here last Wednesday. "Here" is just south of the Key Bridge. For me, that's officially the announcement of Spring.

      Drying Brass Methods

Rolled around in a dish towel, then onto a cookie sheet. Then into the oven at 170 in the winter, or out in the sun in the summer. KISS

      Annealing..

I build one following the instructions in this video. A fun project and works as advertised. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0xE-6bSwME

      IMI 7.62x51 150g FMJ

I've shot a lot of this ammo and like it. Shoots fine, reloads fine, priced reasonably. But it seems to have been discontinued and/or replaced by Samson - IMI. Does anyone know the story of this change? Thanks

      Brass resizing problem

I sheepishly return with an update. I'm no Arnold Schwarzenegger, but not a total noodle arm either. But before putting a 4' cheater on the press I decided to really lay into it. Way, way more than I have ever had to in the past. Seems to work fine. Sorry for the hassle and I...

      Brass resizing problem

K31 - I've tried RCBS Case Slick, too. But don't know if that is lanolin based. John From MD - Ha! On my first attempts I leaned on the handle so hard the table was coming up off the floor. I had to stand on the table to be able to get leverage to pull the handle back up. But I didn't...

      Brass resizing problem

I measured a few pieces of the 1x fired Lapua; they are running between 0.345 and 0.350. They're not very round at this stage of the process. The 2x fired FGMM brass was averaging 0.3452 at the neck. I don't have any unloaded, resized brass laying around, unfortunately. But I do have a...

      Brass resizing problem

The mystery continues. I tried running a 1x fired piece of Lapua brass, no go. Fresh, unfired Lapua from the same batch runs fine. In the attached pic is the Lapua brass I tried to resize. You can see a faint mark half way down the neck, where, I'm guessing, the brass stops moving into the...

      Brass resizing problem

Thanks, HERMYJOE. I may take you up on that offer. But first, I have a batch of 1x fired Lapua brass I'm going to check. And I know exactly which rifle I fired those out of.
