Agreed. When referring to trout, we call them stream bred, not native. They are not detrimental to other fish species, per se, but being born in a given place does not make you "native". That also applies to humans(think land bridges...) ;)
It's too bad Leupold dropped their heavy duplex line of reticles. They were great deer scopes for around these parts. I think their "FireDot" reticles would be a decent compromise though.
Maybe look at something with a 30-30 reticle?

If you do shoot "the bad guy", holster immediately. Do not stand there with your gun out, 'covering' the bad guy. That will likely get you shot.
Being from MoCo, I always preferred launching from Leesylvania State Park in Va. It's just across the river from Mattawoman. Plenty of parking and you can buy yearly passes there.

As long as the barrel is a Colt 14.5" SOCOM and the muzzle device is pinned and welded or silver soldered on, then yes, it should be good to go in Md.
Or, if it has a 16" barrel marked or marketed as Heavy or Heavy Barrel or Hbar, it too should be OK.
