Any one CC with empty chamber?

Yes, and rightly so. This empty chamber practice also seems to imply that DA revolvers - which always have a round in the cylinder/chamber - are inherently unsafe, which history has shown to be untrue.

Exploring the Power and Versatility of 38 Special Ammo

A great cartridge. Suitable for a wide range of power levels, inherently accurate easily reloadable. Still viable today for range or defense purposes.

Shooting a pistol at 100 yards

A long time ago, when I was on the 4th Naval District pistol team, I won a bet by hitting an empty coke can at 100 yds, using the issued 1911 accurized by a Navy Marksmanship Unit. So, the pistol can do it; I probably could not do it today.

      FMJ AMMO FOR SELF DEFENSE

FMJ? In general, I agree with dbledoc; his experience is similar to mine in inner city ER's. In addition, I agree with his summary of the available medical literature - there are no definitive clinical data that directly address bullet design and probability of incapacitation. Unfortunately...

      CZ 457

CZ My grandson and I have been able to more or less consistently hit a 1 1/2 inch steel spinner at 100 yds using a CZ 455 Trainer w. 4X scope. The rifle is impressive.

      Federal Punch .22lr “defense ammo”

22lr 1) There are no "jacketed" 22lr cartridges. 2) Ask the Mossad or Israeli sky marshal Mordecai Rachamim if the 22lr is effective against malefactors.

      My favorite 22 rifle

favorite 22 Like my 10-22s (carbine and target models), loved my Rem 513T - gifted to one of my sons - but probably the last one I'd part with is my Marlin 39AS.

      A S & W Highway Patrolman

why didn't police use 1911... At the time, favored 1911 carry was "cocked & locked". PD supervisors thought this was dangerous & would lead to too many AD's. (The increase in accidents post switch to SA pistols - e.g., NYC and Wash DC - showed they might have been correct) Most 1911's of...

M1 Carbine Issue - Headspace or Ammo?

More likely ammo related. I tried some Magtech in a S&W 686+ some years ago and found poor accuracy and clear differences in felt recoil, Did not happen w. Rem Holden Saber or Federal rounds. I concluded this was due to poor qual.control, and have not bought Magtech since. Re. M1 carbine, I...

      distracted drivers

As others have noted, when I commuted on 95 to Balt. I saw drivers reading newspapers, maps, and using laptops. But an unique surprise occurred on rte 64 coming back from Norfolk Naval Station, as I was passing a sedan occupied by two women. As I got closer I noticed a lot of physical activity...

What is the Benefit of an O/U? Sem-Autos Cost Less.

A few years ago one of my sons and I shot sporting clays at The Homestead, using their (rental) Krieghoff O/U's. We shot pretty well on the course. Some months prior to that we had shot skeet at Homestead, he using his Beretta SA and I using my 1100. Both if us felt that it became somewhat...

Beretta model 71 with fake suppressor

The Beretta 70S (and similar models) is probably the best small 22LR pistol ever made. They are astonishingly reliable and accurate.

Frequency of failure-to-fire in Rimfire 22 LR?

Guns used are Ruger MKII, 10/22, Marlin 39, Old Model Single Six, Beretta 70S and CZ 755 - No failures at all with CCI std vel or Minimags, Wolf Target, Eley, or Lapua. From my experience 1/225 failures would be very disappointing. I believe that if you require absolute reliability...

Bolt action, or lever action rifle, which is better rapid fire?

Some time back there was an article in the American Rifleman magazine in which they tested accuracy and speed of fire in experienced and novice shooters. The fastest, in order, were as you might expect, semiauto, pump, lever, and bolt. However, the differences were much smaller than even the...

Likely moving to the Philly area, could use some advice from people in the know!

U Penn is in West Philly, probably the only part of the city with more crime than North Philly. Earlier poster about North Broad St. was correct. Went to med school and residency at Temple - knife and gun club members in the E.R. every night, and it hasn't gotten much better. Center City has...
