      M1903 vs M1917

The SMLE is a terrific weapon, with the exception of the clip and rimmed ammo. As many here know, unless you load the rounds just right into the clips, you’re in for lots of frustration. That could portend bad things in a combat situation. Still, its weight, balance, operation, and 10-round...

      Marlin 1894 Classic .357 Magnum 18" 9rd Rifle, Walnut - $999.99

I have wanted a “JM” .357 for years…just never had the spare cash. Would still prefer a circa-1980 JM…but, I have read good reviews on the new Ruger/Marlin rifles…has anyone here actually handled one? Would love a review on quality, finish, etc.

      M1903 vs M1917

Have ‘em both…love ‘em both. I’m a little guy at 5’ 6”…the 03 fits and handles better down here…the Marines were loath to give up their 03’s early in WW 2…but how can you argue with the Garand?

      S&W Model 13-1

Great gun…carried the 13-3 for about five years as a duty weapon…put Pachmyers on it…loved it…had to turn it in because the agency was returning all to S&W…otherwise, I would have bought it…ultimately, bought one on GB about five years ago…solid. Simple. Thousands upon thousands of rounds...

How to authenticate a WWII Marine Corps helmet?

My dad wore a Hawley liner into combat with the 65th Infantry Division…that was January of ‘45. He (and a total of 50% of his platoon) had been transferred in as an infantry replacements from the 751st MP Battalion in Edinburgh, in October of ‘44, when the Army needed infantrymen more than...

How to authenticate a WWII Marine Corps helmet?

Don’t know as much as I would like about USMC stuff, but the color of the liner, while a re-paint, is more the Marine green than the Army shade…can’t remember the stock numbers of the colors.

Thoughts on Value of Pristine WWII-era Remington Rand 1911A1?

I’ve been watching exactly that profile Remington pistol for a while to add to the collection…well, maybe a tad earlier number, ideally…no rush, and taking a chance on the CMP for the fun (and provenance) of it. I think that $3K guess is about right for an all-original Remington of that...

      Colt SAA Spanish American War

Just to add a coupla more stories from the old major (Now at Arlington…), he said the Krag bullets wouldn’t penetrate the hard wood chest armor the Moro’s wore, so the guys pulled the 30-40 bullets, and put them back in the cases backwards…which worked better and would knock down the bad guys so...

Added an M44 to the collection

Pretty. I know nothing much about them…have heard of their having a big muzzle flash, and recoil. The M38 looks very similar, but doesn’t have the attached bayonet, which strikes me as more practical for civilian use.

Patriot Picket Civil Rights Suit FILED!

Sure was nice to see “Rack and Roll” pop up, again…even if only a thread from 2018.

      Colt SAA Spanish American War

Nice…I know little about those handguns…as I recall, the government had hone to .38 revolvers that were underpowered for the fights our troops were in at that time…they took a bunch of the old ‘73’s, cut ‘em down a coupla inches and refinished the parts…shook ‘em up so the non-matching numbers...

Shot a M1 Garand for the first time 11/11/23

I love my Garands…collect mostly WW2 Springfields, but my first (back in ‘76) was a welded receiver HRA/Springfield…shoots great. Carried one for three years in the USMC-JROTC…went Army after high school, and qualified on an M-14…as much as I love Garands, I’d prefer the 14 to the M1 were I ever...

5.56 Ammo - Getting the right bullet for your AR15

I think the OP specified a 16 1/2” HBAR with a 1:7 twist. (Sounds like a new cocktail.). Intended use is general, SHTF, inside 200 yards. My understanding is that bullets heavier than 62 grains won’t do as well in that configuration. I think some here may be suggesting that heavier bullets...

      N-SSA

I did about six years back in the late 60’s/early 70’s. 67th NY in the old Metropolitan Region. Lots of us still used original weapons and even some original gear. It’s a great sport…lottsa fun…nice folks…every now and then I think about jumping back in…now retired and living in Florida…not a...

      Winchester 5.56 M855 - Rebate maximizer

Sam caveats the program with the probability that it will take a few months to get the rebate, but that it’s been reliable, albeit slow, thus far. Another deal on Sam’s site, and also eligible for the rebate has bulk 5.56 62 gr. green tips in one box, so only one coupon to clip vs lots.

      Enfield Cartridge Rabbit Hole

Just FYI, I used to do a lot of relic hunting around Spottsylvania back 25 years ago…dug lottsa fired Enfields with the wooden plugs still present…they were enfolded in the lead when the bullets impacted, I guess.
