Need Some Nipple Help! (For a BP Pistol)

Update: I know its been awhile since I gave an update on my search for nipples (Ha!). I contacted a fellow by the name of Ron Blomquist of Blomquist Percussion Works in Indianapolis who had to order special dies to cut 40tpi nipples for me. I sent him two of the originals out of my Whitney...

      Hi-Point Firearms?

Hi-Point firearms are certainly not the highest quality pieces but they are ok shooters. I own a Hi-Point 9mm carbine and its a lot of fun and inexpensive to shoot. I have had it for several years and have had no problems.

Need Some Nipple Help! (For a BP Pistol)

Just an update. I still have not been able to either find a set of nipples or find anybody capable/willing to make some custom pieces. I have checked dozens of shops, even shops in northern Canada. I'm still open to any suggestions.

Need Some Nipple Help! (For a BP Pistol)

Just an update. I went to Hafers and he referred me to anybody with a CNC machine to cut new nipples. I am now searching for somebody with those capabilities that doesn't require a minimum of 100 pieces. I still have my fingers crossed.

Need Some Nipple Help! (For a BP Pistol)

Still no luck finding replacement nipples. I think I will run down to Hafers this week and let him gauge the cylinder and nipples and see if we can't put something together. I'll let you all know what I find out.

Need Some Nipple Help! (For a BP Pistol)

I took the nipples to Fort Chambers shop in Greencastle, PA. They specialize in all things black powder. He measured the originals I had with a thread gauge and came up with 40 tpi. After searching all he had, he could only suggest that I visit a museum restoration specialist or have some...

Need Some Nipple Help! (For a BP Pistol)

I'll check the Flint River's and let you know. I'm crossing my fingers. This is an original and I don't want to re-thread the cylinder.

Need Some Nipple Help! (For a BP Pistol)

I need some help finding an odd sized black powder pistol nipple. I am currently restoring an original E. Whitney Navy Revolver (1858-1862). The nipples were completely rusted. I contacted Dixie Gun Works and they told me that 6x.75 would fit the pistol. Having replacements in hand, I was...

At work, I carry a Smith & Wesson H.R.T. boot knife. Excellent knife but the plastic sheath clip could be a little improved.

      Taurus 85?

I have had my 85 for several years now. Switched out the grips and have had no problems at all. Just don't like the 5 shot capacity.

      external safeties

I mainly shoot Glocks for work and pleasure (No External Safety). I sometimes find myself shooting my S&W DA and do not use the safety. I think that after years of building muscle memory with the Glock, when I shoot any other pistol I don't use the safety.

Thank you for the warm reception. And yes to the C&R. I live just outside Boonsboro town limits and I don't know of any strange gun regulations in town. I built a small range at my home and checked with the Boonsboro PD first, yes they have police (2 of them), and I was told that the only...

      Favorite gun grease

Lube If I am running my AR hot and dirty, I carry a dropper of automatic transmission fluid. A few drops keeps it running smooth. Trans fluid is built to take the heat and doesn't break down very fast. I went to Storm Mountain and was running the gun real hot. I had fired about 300 rounds...

CCW in DC? Not likely, but...

Law Enforcement in DC There are actually 39 law enforcement agencies in the District of Columbia. DC Metropolitan Police, which I have been a sworn member of for 11 years, is the primary law enforcement agency in the city. As stated earlier, there are many federal law enforcement agencies...
