    The .458 is easier to shoot offhand than on a bench. Your body absorbs more energy when confined by the bench.

    I took a closer look at the ammunition available for this cartridge and I realized I can only use most of it at an outdoor range. Most of the deep penetrators have steel in them. Another reason to start with handloads.

    I'm temporarily installing a red dot until I get the money up for a Nightforce 1-8x with their mounting solution. I could use some more brass, either 7mm or 300 WinMag. It's cheaper than the 458 brass. I have a small stash of 300 here, just looking for more.
