What grade of rifle was it?

Service grade. It actually arrived this morning, along with the Garand book.

Looks like new wood. Tag has "WRA" - don't know what that means. If I'm reading the tables correctly, it's from late 1953 or early 1954.

Well, I dithered and now the service grades are sold out so I'll just sit tight and wait.

Buying that consignment Garand and having Charlie refurbish it for me was definitely a smart move. It didn't feel like it at the time.

I wouldn't lose hope. I just received my DBU email with my customer number.

    Apparently I misread the tables.

According to the Canfield book, six-digit serial numbers in this range were reserved for Springfield Armory, and this number seems to fall in February 1942.

    Is this possibly correct?

Keep an eye on your M1 Garand packages as most carriers have still be screwing up delivery's. If you call the carrier make sure get them to assign a case issue. Typically the front line telephone workers just try to brush you off .

I just received 2 but the third says it is in transport in Baltimore. I hope it doesn’t get lost.

    Picks to follow
