    You should be able to. However, I’d use a very small amount on an unobtrusive spot on the inside of the stock first. Let it sit for awhile and check to see if it softened the plastic. Mineral spirits usually don’t attack plastics.

    Good old fashioned soap and hot water is better on cosmoline. With the synthetic stock there is no wood for the oil to ruin. Oven cleaner is even better, but may be a little harsh on the Fiberglas resin.
