At the recent Chantilly show, I aquired a Stoveman Holster, otherwise known as a kydex holster imprinted with an American Flag. So of course the trusty 1911 needs to keep up for those Open Carry events , and the brown plastic GI style just won't do. I've always had a hankering for the Stag or Jigged Bone look, but I'm looking for opinions if somthing else would be particularly suitable to go with the flag. And current budget calls for the synthetic version instead of genuine exotic materials.

    1. Imitation Stag
    2. Imitation Ivory
    3. Imitation Mother of Peral
    4. Wood with color & grain
    5. ??

You need to make this a poll.

But I'd recommend that you buy what gets you excited. Whatever that may be.

    Good luck!

Gold plated with a small inset diamond for a front sight perhaps?

I'm partial to smooth grips myself.

I don't know, having a front sight mounted on a grip panel would be kinda hard to get a good sight picture.

Those are nice, but I want somthing that looks good from 25 feet away.

What about those Damascus Grips Billy Meekins [sp] sells? He's the knife guy at the gun shows. Lives up in the Darlington area I believe.

I'm old-school, the Hogue cocobolo checkered grip has a traditional look with some nice figuring in the wood...
These look great on a blued gun, depends on what finish your gun is I guess.
    around $35

Go on eBay and look at what's available there. Thousands are shown, of every stripe. Your head will be spinning.

I'm the only person not in lust with ebay.

My default first easy choice would be in stock stocks ( pun intended) from Altamont .

Interesting things from RAASCO, particularly on clearence.

What's different with Taraus PT1911 grips ? I'm guessing they are standard 1911 grips, inletted for Taraus's flavor of ambi safety. If so , any issues with using them on a standard, non-ambi gun ?

Not sure of the differences, but you must inform RAASCO of the make and model you are getting them for.
They were very helpful when I bought mine.

Options 1-3 all sound good when matched with the Stoveman holster. Love Altamonts selection, and greater certainty (over eBay at times) in getting what you want.
