But how many Peoples Republic residents wish they could plop down 20 bucks and have the right to carry that “itty bitty little gun”? :)

The Duke used his personally owned Colt Single Action Army in .38-.40 for most of his westerns so it would make sense the Winchester would be in the same caliber...but you never know what a Hollywood prop man might have any particular actor use...what blanks were available might dictate that. Supposedly it wasn't until 1967 and "The War Wagon" that Duke used a .45 Peacemaker. He also used different guns in different cavalry films.

Regardless...it's still fun to talk about.

The Duke's guns usually came from Stembridge Arsenal tuned to fire 5 in 1 Blanks which could replace 5 different cartridges including 38-40, 44-40, 45 LC and was standard for all western movies and TV shows.

And to avoid another misconception, the Duke's gun was supposedly made from 3 differnent Colts and the grips are not yellowed ivory but catalin that the Duke rubbed with teabags to stain them.

One of these guys shoots 45-70
The other shoots 7.62. No, the *original* 7.62

Sorry to tell you but neither one is shooting a 45-70

45-70 didn't make the scene until 1873 so Johnny Reb was SOL

That looks like a Model 1841 "Mississippi" Rifle. The originals were .54 caliber, but I think some of the reproductions are .58. But certainly a muzzleloader.

You're off the hook as long as you don't have a neckbeard and CCW anything in 7.62 Tokarev.
Nothing wrong with carrying a TT. Or maybe there is...

Been seeing that "look" on antifa and related ppl this past year who gunned up in a hurry.

It's ironic to see 30s style socialism coupled with 30s style guns.

I like how Soviet-era clown pistol calibers are the cool thing to shoot again. :whack:

We shouldn't discriminate against pistol calibers because they definitely have their attached stereotypes, too.

.380 ACP, Literally the only size of pistol that will fit into your $200 skinny hipster jeans. Why carry a .380 when it’s more expensive than 9mm? I get it, 9mm is too mainstream for you and you have to be different. I’m sure John Browning is looking down from heaven at you with pride right now. Either that or he’s wishing you’d stop purposely printing your pocket gun.

I used to associate .22 with the old retired guys at the range,,,
Now it is all I can afford,, and I am old to boot.

    (Btw, I like .22s)

There is an old guy (80+) in Hancock, MD, who goes out every Monday morning to shoot his 22 at the Green Ridge range. He has to stop 3 times to catch his breath walking down to the targets. I hope I can last that long. I bought my first match 7.62 Garand from him.

Haha, I like post like these.
I don’t really care who shoots what caliber, as long as they’re shooting something.

But, me and the guys I hunt/shoot with all tease each other, about the caliber(s) the others shoot. All in good fun!

I was always a 30-06 guy, my brother a .308 guy. I tell him the 308 was invented for women. Lol, almost a 30-06, but not quite!

My teenage son, alway shot a 243 until this year, he’s now a 6.5 creed fan. Hell, I liked his so much, I got one myself. Now my brother, picks on both of us.

I also shoot 45/70 a lot, no one makes fun of that caliber!

To the OP, my wife does shoot a 7mm-08, I’m a huge fan of that cartridge! It’s great all around. Flat shooting, low recoil, and plenty of power.

Speaking as a complete non-hunting outsider, the "controversies" over hunting rounds has always struck me as 100% Fuddlore which completely ignore any advances in what we've learned about terminal ballistics. Who cares if you're shooting .270W or .308W or .350L or whatever? Pick a good hunting load, and put the bullet where it's supposed to go, and your animal is gonna go down. I am willing to entertain that I'm wrong about this, but it seems utterly inexplicable... doubly so when most dudes seem to be creeping up on deer at 40-60yds before taking their shot.
