    The subject is PGO Firearms.

Yes, ATF made a ruling about taking a PISTOL and converting it to RIFLE and clarifying that it is legal to convert back to PISTOL again.

That ATF letter about pistols/rifles did NOT discuss a PGO FIREARM. a PGO is not a RIFLE and its not a PISTOL. There is no ATF letter to say that's ok with this classification of a firearm as far as I know.

No one is saying its illegal to put a stock on a PGO and then reinstalling the Pistol grip back on. The issue pops up in regards to making the barrel shorter than 18" after you play switcheroo with a PG and Stock.

Post #34 left my head spinning as I couldn't tell which parts were the qrigional quote , and which were the rebutal.

Apropos of nothing at all , somebody remind me of the Md State definition of Pistol as regards bbl length per se. I know 14in & down has meaning , but refresh me 'bout 14.1 thru 15.9in bblas.

Under 16" (With non pinned muzzle device removed) is a pistol in regards to transport in MD. There are other applications that Nate could clarify that fall under P.S. articles which a FFL has to comply with.

I believe I found my answer to my first question and will (tentatively) agree with you Ab. I am far too tired to still be working/reading right now.

This is why stock in box may matter:

So, if you sell both barrels with the PGO installed shotgun with stock in the box, would that be ok?

    :)

I would have to say that combination of parts would be OK to sell that way based on the TC Contender ruling. To be sure the ATF should be consulted but I don't see how they could come to any other conclusion based on the TC ruling.

Are you sure the 590 does not have a stock in the box? If it does its not an "other", its a combo gun and classified as a shotgun.

What you want is legal for you to do. The shop likely wont do it though as most don't understand this technicality and it will raise flags and cause you difficulty.

You can legally make an other a shotgun, but you cant go back to "other" once you do it legally.

    Thank you

I said its no longer an "other" firearm once a stock is attached. You can put a pistol grip on a shotgun as long as the OAL is 26" and the barrel is 18" unless you want to go NFA. For an "other" the barrel can be any length as long as the OAL is 26"+ unless you want to go NFA.

Shotguns are also 18+ for FFL purchase where Other Firearms are 21+ from a FFL.

Is a "regular" 18+" barreled shotgun that has a pistol grip installed OK for a so-called truck gun?

I recommend that you "borrow" a friends for a box or 2 of 00 Buck before adapting yours into a beast. They are pretty abusive to the shooter. I put a mag tube extension on mine and it has a 20in barrel. I can spew 8 rounds of 00 buck and when done you know damn well you were wrestling an alligator. Does that mean I want to get rid of mine? Hell no. I practiced with bird shot loads and then went back to the 00 buck. Again...abusive but it has 1 job to do and I would only grab that if I needed to answer the door in the middle of the night in an unsavory place. It's good at what it is designed for but not an everyday shooter unless your built like Arnold.

Wow, kind of brought this one back from the dead didn’t you? The last post was over four years ago, I hope the OP has made a decision by now. Lol
