Do you remember yours? Mine was a Winchester 94ae It got me my first deer at 14. Last night I picked up a Ruger American Ranch in 223 for my 8 year old. His birthday is in November and I think he is going to be thrilled.

My first deer rifle, a sporterized Mauser 98 in .30/06. It was crude and rude with crooked sights, a horrendous trigger, and steel buttplate that punished a 14yo something awful. It was fairly accurate though, and I learned to shoot it well. I eventually sold it to a friend in order to finance a Winchester M70 Featherweight. Wish I still had the old Mauser.

    Pre-64 Winchester Mdl 70 30-06, then another Win Mdl 70 30-06 (the one I
shoot) $75 (I think) from Farmers Co-op when they sold guns, after that pretty
    much down hill from there...;)

My first center fire rifle was an M16 A1 from my military experience. Never owned a center fire until after I got out. My dad was never really gun and hunting oriented. Different story with my current family and kids :)

First centerfire was a 357 Magnum Ruger Security Six revolver.
First long gun center fire was an older Remington 700 ADL in 7mm Rem Mag. I should have kept it. It would shoot into 1 1/8" all day long with Winchester Silvertips.

A Swiss surplus 1896/11 when I was 18, picked it up at Woolworth's for 29.99, still have it.

Those were the days. Remember when Woolworths was selling M1 carbine for $45  K98 and all military surplus was sold out of a barrel? Loose 7 or 8mm cartridge were sold for . 15 cents per cartridge? I think that was in the early 70s.
