    Welcome to MARS 2021.

Happy New Year, Everyone! Basically everything is the same except we added more Clubs (11) and a lot more Matches (57!); we also made a few Rulebook changes; and updated the logo a bit.

Remember, if you want to be eligible for the Finale, you must purchase a Membership on the website.

If you are are a beginner or just want a tune up, we have added new resources to our Getting Started page (with more added all the time), AND Coaching sessions are available but filling up.

And finally, new MARS logo merchandise will be coming soon…

Hope to see everyone out on the range!

    New Rules Highlights

ALL prizes will be awarded by random drawing. We want this series to be about the camaraderie, new shooters and the love of the sport. As always, prizes at each individual matches will be awarded by random drawing. In addition, all prizes at the finale will also be awarded by random drawing. Top shooters in each division will walk away with the coveted MARS trophies.

Divisions will be scored completely separately. This means Bolt shooters’ series points will be calculated based off of highest Bolt shooter’s score, Semi shooters’ series points will be calculated based off of highest Semi shooter’s score, etc.

Stage design, including props, should accommodate competitors of various heights and physical build.

For a the entire new Rulebook, visit our website.

There are no MARS matches listed on Practiscore for BCGF, IWLA 67, Thurmont or Hamburg. (Hamburg does have a "Hamburg Precision Rimfire Team Challenge" on April 10, but it does not seem to be a MARS event?) How does one sign-up/register for future MARS matches at these venues? Thank you.

The match directors sometimes post the match on practiscore late. BCFG and Hamburg were like two weeks before their matches if I remember correctly. There's almost always ask extra spot or two until a couple of days beforehand so I wouldn't sweat it too much.

Thanks for reaching out. MARS posts registrations as soon as MD's send them to us. Sometimes MD's send out registrations late or forget to send them to MARS.

You can always reach out to MARS for questions. We have lots of social media outlets and an email address on the website. You can also contact the MD's directly.

Please be patient with MD's, remember they are doing most of this on a voluntary basis.

Hi, wanted to come to a match at some point and was wondering, in the rules it states all equipment must be in hand before starting a stage. What types of equipment are legal and what types are generally used/nice to have on hand?

MARS has very little official gear restrictions, but equipment needed for a stage really depends on the specific barricade and course of fire. There can also be different gear restrictions written into a individual stage descriptions. In general though, a positional shooting bag, bipod, dope reference card and spare magazine will get the job done on most stages.

We have lots more information on our website. Go to https://midatlanticrimfireseries.wordpress.com/getting-started/
and check out the 'Practice Rimfire Rifle - Primer'. That's a good place to start. We also offer beginner coaching.

Hope to see you out on the range!

Someone more experienced will likely answer, but basically there are a wide array of different front bag types used by most shooters. Some shooters also have large stuffed bags to squat on. A detachable bipod is usually used, depending on the course elements. When you attend an event, there will likely be lots of guys that will lend you their bags and other stuff to shoot with (me - although I have limited gear) and this will give you an idea of what you would like to buy or make for yourself to continue.

Honestly, if you have a 22 that can do 1 moa at 50, a bipod, and your DOPE out to at least 200 (preferrably 300), the rest of the gear you can borrow.

To answer your question, each stage will specify the amount of equipment you can use. Usually its a bag for the front or rear of the rifle and your bipod. Anything extra could be gravy

Awesome, thanks for all the info folks. Going to go get my dope past 200 finalized tomorrow and sounds like I should be all set.

Everyone there will do their best to help you get the game down. I'm the MD for the match. Safety requirements are the most important thing. Chamber flags in your rifle everywhere but when under RO supervision on match day. I think all the other replies have covered the small stuff. You do your part and we'll help you along to get through the match. It's a lot to take in all at once but coming out to play will let you know if you want to get more involved. 125 rounds of your ammo that shoots well in your gun, chamber flag, bipod, and at least 2 mags should get you pretty close. We can loan you the rest of the stuff you'll need/want to use on the stages.
