The attached picture is a proposed zoning change in QA County. There's apparently not a grandfather provision so this could impact Schrader's current operation as well as stopping the new facility they planned in Milington. I'll include the new ordinance and Schrader's letter.

Take a lesson from parents. Organize massive turnouts, speakers, and public pressure at commission meetings, appointments with individual commissioners, etc. All the objections stated are valid. Organize those constituents to show up, speak up. Imagine wounded warriors on prosthetics and in wheel chairs showing up, along with scouts in uniforms, etc.

Something similar happened with my gun club in my home town (Harrisburg Hunters and Anglers). The club was established in 1896 and has operated continuously since. In the 1980s- almost a hundred years later- a residential development was built next door and the new residents tried to get the club shut down due to excessive noise.
The judge was quick to realize the homeowners knew darn well they were buying next to a hundred year old gun club and were well aware of the noise in advance. Mind you, this was PA and not Marylandistan.

I remember 25+ years ago, a new development was built at the approach end of a small private airstrip. The new residents banded together to try to force the airport to close. They ALL submitted signed documents stating that the occasional air traffic was a sound nuisance and lowered their potential property values.

Judge ruled that the airport was there 1st and had every right to exist as it has,, But he DID have each complaint letter added to each homeowner's deed, so they would have to disclose to future buyers. :lol2:

Im a member of a club in PA, it used to be closed dusk to dawn until recently an 8am change. I got to talking to some guy there and he told me he was 1 reason they changed the club hours.

Evidently he started shooting at dawn on Mothers Day, which is probably like 6am and someone who just moved in nearby got in their car and drove to the club to yell at him for shooting early morning on Mothers Day.

Bruh, you moved next to a gun range.

Anybody remember National Capital gun club in Darnestown? They had been operating since 1954 when the surrounding area was all farm land.
Finally enough deep pocket implants bought houses in the area and managed to close them down.

Am I reading the proposal right and it would effectively ban all DNR regulated hunting areas if it is next to a residential area? Isn’t that many of them if there is a private residence next to DNR land?

No, its DNR approved gun clubs, not DNR property. Makes all hunt clubs that have official DNR approval whose property lines touch a residential property illegal.

Schrader's wanted to open a second or third location near Millington and this zoning law change would stop them, but it would probably also shut down 9 out of 10 private gun clubs in QA. I guess the prospective neighbors knew they would have no chance complaining to the zoning board under current zoning law.

If you hate hunting, stay off the Eastern Shore.

National Capital Gun Club was a Great Club in the 1970's.

Yep, used to shoot there when I lived in Germantown.
It was still there until the early 90's (at least). I think I last shot there around '93.
