Exactly what I would expect from BCA. A buddy of mine bought four uppers from them a while back, two in 7.62x39 two in 300BLK... the 300BLK just flat out wouldn't work. Sent back numerous times, all came back with issues, wouldn't cycle, gas block coming loose, etc. Ended up sending back for refunds. The 7.62 uppers, it was 50/50... one ran great, no problems. The other started to have cycling issues after second magazine. Sent it back, got another dud. Sent it back, finally got one that will shoot.

With wasted ammo, times going to post office back and forth yada yada I would stay away from anything BCA.

To their credit, I have a BCA 7.62x39 upper that has run ok so far. I figured a 22 couldn't be too much worse could it? I was wrong.

Did you ever think that maybe you were born under a black cloud?

Well, our family does seem to have a water curse. I had an ATI M4-22 that suffered constant light stikes, and would not fire. Sent it back to ATI and it came back worse. Had my gunsmith buddy look at it and he got it working 75%, and I sold it, fully disclosing the issues.

Bought a Mossberg 51. The mount for the tube to feed into the chamber had evidently rusted and fallen out. Took a while but my gunsmith found a super hard to find repacement and got it working halfway decently. Sold that to a collector.

Bought a Chiappa Rak 22. Took it to the range early December , 2021 to test and break in. Would not feed out of the factory 10rd mags. Trying to register it and get a RMA with Chiappa was a pain in the ass, but I did it. They asked if I tried breaking in the rifle using high velocity ammo. I told them it wouldn't feed at all. I couldn't break it in. Sent it back, haven't heard back since.

Bought the BCA 22 upper December 3rd. Took to the range December 31, 2021. Failed immediately. I couldn't get thru a single 10rd mag without some sort of jam every other shot, whether it was failure to feed, failure to extract, faliure to eject. Contacted BCA, and at least they made it easy. Sent me a label and RMA number immediately. I just want a refund at this point so I can buy a 15-22. The BCA 22 upper did have a nice fit and finish, and looked really nice on my lower. It really bummed me out.

But my biggest bum out, my Grizzly Defense. 22 AK conversion. I bought it from Classic, maybe 3 years ago. I got it, and it wouldn't go in ANY of my rifles. I contacted the company and they did an exchange. The second unit fit great. I put it back in the box and forgot about it. This December with the Rak 9 taking a dump, I dusted off the Grizzly Defense kit, put it in my AK, per the instructions, and ran some dummy rounds thru by hand cycling it, without issue. At the range this New Year's eve, and it started off running great. Accuracy wasn't nearly as good as the couple shots I squeaked out of the BCA, but it was hella fun. Then I had one shot where itnhad an unusual bang, and smoke out the side ejection port. One round didn't fully go into battery and blew the extractor and plunger into who knows where. I was outside and couldn't find it. Comtacted the company, and despite being out of warranty, they are sending me an extractor and plunger. I hope to fix it and get it working ok because I really dig it.

    How about a Henry pump-action in .22?

Sent from my SM-T733 using Tapatalk

    Or both!

Only bad thing I can say about the Pump is the pump action is a bit rough. After a half hour of offhand shooting with it, my left arm starts to get sore from both holding the gun up and working the pump. I do like the simple sites on the lever action. Lever 22 gives you the opportunity to leather wrap the loop :)

Not happy with BCA right now. I initiated the return within 30 days. They issued me store credit when I specified I wanted a refund. I left them a few messages, so we'll see what happens.

So, they issued me a gift card. I don't want another crappy .22 upper, I want a refund to buy a 15-22. Damn it BCA.

My upper just arrived today. I'll give a report when I finally get to the range. Might be a couple weeks.

My upper came today. I hope there are some instructions online because it is different. I didn't notice before I jumped on the purchase but it is not threaded. I can live with that. The recoil spring and guide is similar to a Ciener so it should be tuneable. The extractor looks similar to a Ruger. I am just cleaning it and lubing it today and will try it tomorrow as delivered before I pull it apart for a fluff and buff.

Update. I decided to shoot some rounds in the basement rather than go to the range tomorrow in 20 * temps with a non functioning gun.

I cleaned and lube the upper, ran a few dozen through by hand, no problem. I next tried some standard velocity. They would feed, extract and feed the next round but would not reset the hammer. I then tried Mini Mags and they ran just fine. Ejection is strong so the extractor must have a good hold on the case.

Over all, the build looks pretty good. It is nice and smooth and has no sharp edges. The feed ramp is very narrow but I had no feed issues with it. I still may polish it up later.

Two things I don't like. One is the recoil spring they used. It appears to be zinc coated and stronger than needed. Perhaps it will wear in and will allow operation with standard velocity without any action by me. If not, it can be tuned by trimming coils. I plan to contact Wolff gunsprings on Monday to see if they have any substitute springs or if they have the time to make some for me.

The second thing I don't like is the round firing pin. I have always modified these into a wedge if I could make it so the pin can't rotate. Round firing pins waste energy by hitting part of the area outside of the rim. The wedge pins makes a deeper imprint that gives more consistency and reliability.

Stay tuned for tomorrows report if I don't freeze out on the range.

I contacted BCA to find out why I only got store credit, and I missed the 30 day money back by one day. I thought I bought it December 3, 2021, but I evidently did December 1, 2021. I didn't actually shoot it until December 31, 2021 due to being sick with Covid, and the holidays. Since it was New years, and I figured they would be closed, I decided to wait until January 2, 2022 to contact them, my bad, but when I was in their online site requesting the return, the date was shifted by a day to, which makes me think. I even made note of it in the comments when I was typing. So, they denied my refund, so no new 15-22 for me. Gave me STORE CREDIT. So I thought it over, and ordered another 22 upper. Got it yesterday. I hope this isn't the one I sent back, or, another steaming turd. Yeah, the design is different than the 15-22 and CMMG, so seems alien to me. I am HOPING to get to the range within 30 days, depending on the weather, to test this thing. I'm really pissed they denied my refund by one day since I tried to wait until after they get back for New Years, but technically they got me. This thing better run or I will be pissed.

    Update #2

Last night I played with the bolt and found that the firing pin slot pretty much keeps the pin from rotating too much. Based on this, I made the flat nose into a standard chisel type. I hand cycled all of my magazines and they all fed and ejected fine.

This morning, in 22* weather, I headed to the range. It was so cold, my Burris Fast Fire was blinking ( low voltage indicator). I had to take the battery out and warm it up with my hand warmer to get it to work properly.

Initially I ran 5 rounds of 40gr mini mag through all eight mags. Not one malfunction. Then I started running 15 and 30 round strings and again had no malfunctions. Next I tried Federal Auto Match and again had no malfunctions. Next I tried Winchester 333 and none would fire and they all had light strikes.

This can be a combination of two things. One the brass is harder. Two, the RAV 140 trigger has too light as strike for the brass (I use non modular triggers on my CMMG builds so I can use heavier hammer springs)

In any case, I still plan to polish the chamber and feed ramp just because but other than that, I think my build is good to go.

As for accuracy, I was only shooting at 16 yards but I managed to make a 3/8 hole with 5 rounds from the bench. I figure that's pretty good with a red dot sight!
