    Universal Background Checks?

Just rec'd this email from VCDL; obviously focused on VA senators, but appears to be a national item. I don't know anything more than what is quoted below:

    Urgent Action Item

There is a push to pass Universal Background Checks without a recorded vote using something called “Unanimous Consent” in the U.S. Senate TODAY!

Call both of our Senators and tell their aides you want the Senator to OPPOSE unanimous consent on H.R. 8.

Press option #2 on both calls and leave the message with a staff member.

    Phone numbers:

    Mark Warner: 202-224-2023 (option 2)

    Tim Kaine: 202-224-4024 (option 2)

They are getting ready for nation-wide carry.

Living in Marylandistan, it is a waste of time to call our Demonrat senators, since they lack the ability to think independently of the collective socialist agenda their party has embraced.

That said, I strive to comply with all Constitutionally legitimate restrictions on my rights as an American citizen.

If they get enough calls, even if it goes against their agenda, they'll think twice about wasting political power on this form of gun control. We see it often enough in Annapolis.

In the same amount of time it takes to post a forum comment you can call your Senator and say the lines above, it's really that simple

I thought the NICs system was "Universal" background checks??
They want to eliminate all F2F sales, like MD did.
Universal background checks are a step further - depending on what the current state of the bill is, UBCs are strict enough that simply lending a long gun without a background check would be a crime. That's a trip to the LGS, $$$, and potential delays for both giving and receiving your firearm, every time.

It is also completely unenforceable without a national registry, but that's only a skip and a hop away once they pass UBCs.

the best way to stop a felon with a gun.... is to keep that violent animal in jail.

and similarly, if we really don't trust felons with guns, such that we need background checks to catch them trying, keep them in friggin jail.

I have my doubts, we will see.
Ironically NRA was able in the past to poison pill prior UBC by tying it to national reciprocity as amendments to prior UBC bills.
