Would appreciate recommendations for an indoor pellet trap for a SIG M17. I’ve been shooting it outdoors, but the sound is too loud for my neighborhood. I will be shooting in my basement at about 25 feet, so the sound is not a problem, but pellet stopping is critical. It fires .177 pellets at 430 FPS.

    Where they send me.
Many ways to do this. Doesn't take a lot to stop a pellet like you're shooting at that velocity. The metal traps are nice but a bit of money and noisy. Can build a wooden one with the duct seal in it but that also gets a bit $$.

So, I usually use a 5 gallon bucket filled with rags and wadded up paper. Keep it filled and it will work well with little noise.

Have also used large moving boxes in the past filled with the same stuff for a larger target.

Really, it doesn't take a lot to stop a .177 at that speed and you can do it cheap.

An old sweater in a bucket is all it takes. When I grew up, we would re-use the pellets if they still looked good.

When I was shooting a "BB" CO2 pistol growing up we would just tape a piece of paper on the old winter coats hanging up in the closet. At that velocity there was zero damage done to an old Carhart coat.

When we got a little more powerful (Daisy 880 with 10 pumps) we would take a "whisky bottle box" and stand up a phone book and about 10 magazines in the back then fill the front with crumpled newspaper. Tape a paper target on the front and good to go.

All good ideas, a 2’ x 3’ x 1’ cardboard box filled with magazines and wadded up newspaper has worked well for me. I have an old couch cushion behind it as a backup, but it’s never been touched.

Buy a half gallon bottle of grape juice, drink the juice and fill the plastic bottle with sand. Tape a target on the bottle and start shooting. Use duct tape to cover the holes periodically and it will last a long time. If you make your own bullets, you can pour the sand through a colander and recycle both. :party29:

I put little 2x2s in front to hold it up and to give me a place to put the army men. Serves 'em right--shoulda joined the Coast Guard!

I'll warn you--this took 20 pounds so you're looking at a $50 target. I shoot enough that I figured it was worth it.

I really like shooting at midnight while listening to an audiobook. Between the silencer and the putty I don't have to worry about alerting the neighbors.

Man I love airgunning. Being able to pick off army men at 40 yards quietly is pure joy. With a 24x scope you can picture them yelling 'wheee!' as they fly through the air. The PCP has zero recoil so you don't blink. I wouldn't trade this for any powder gun.
