I've got a police trade in Express I'm thinking of SBSing

I've seen 14" factory barrels. Read about 12.5" factory barrels. Anyone seen the 12.5" in the wild?

I want rifle sights. Is it more economical to buy a complete barrel with sights or cut one down? I have an 18" with rifle sights that the end is pitted on. How are the sights held on? Solder?

12.5" is the shortest you can go without doing action bar and barrel lug work. Your muzzle will be pretty much directly over the mag tube cap.

Buying a barrel with the sights will be the cheapest route. You can, in a pinch, install a Wilson ghost ring front over a bead and use an Aridus rear without a ton of drama.

Yep that's why I figured a 12.5" barrel would be fun. Any idea for a dependable source? I think I'd rather stay OEM if they're available anywhere commonly.

12.5" is non-standard, which means you're gonna have to chop it yourself or have someone else do it. This is why you don't see a lot of them floating around. Briley makes a one shot extension that goes flush-fit to 14", incidentally.

Hmm maybe 14" is good enough then. I know Remington made barrels for them.

Thought I read 12.5 was a Remington offering. Evidently not.

10" is - that's what's on the MCS in breacher config. But you can't use it without messing with your magazine tube, getting different action arms, etc. Always thought there was a business opportunity for one of the Chinese 870 clone exporters to send out MCS-style guns with an 18" barrel, and then have the importer contract out for some home-made 10" barrels.

Does it matter how the original front site is attached , if that part of the bbl is being chopped off ?

Oh . You want to also reattach again .

Why ? Are you seriously that in love with that front sight on purpose ? Thriftiness ?

If I was doing a chop project , I would consider it a positive to have clean slate to go with a front sight of my choosing , like a sourdough , or maybe a sufficiently protected fiber optic .

( The factory sight most impressed me was Win M12/1300 Slug Gun , FWIW .)

Chop it and put a bead on it.

Why would you ever need rifle sights on a gun made to shoot 5-20 feet?
