I built this AR45 (45 APC braced pistol) using a New Frontier lower (branded as Spartan for Joe Bob Outfitters). It uses the new Frontier upper and lower, plus a CMMG Radial Delayed Blowback with an 8" barrel. I removed the ejector on the New Frontier lower.

So I am trying to adjust the last round bolt hold open; long story short, the mag seems to sit too high. I even removed the LRBHO wire just to take that out of the equation. I am using Glock 21 Gen 3 mags. I also tried a knock-off high cap mag (25 rounder). You can see in the photo below where the bolt lugs are hitting knock-off mag. No such marks on the Glock mag, but as you see below, the bolt lugs don't clear on the Glock mag either.

The only thing that seems to work, is with the mag removed, loading a single round and extracting by pulling the charging handle. The round ejects as expected.

Is this lower simply incompatible with the CMMG BCG??

Looks like the CMMG barrel and BCG are going to be excessed and replaced with an old-fashioned heavy a$$ blow back system. That's what happens when you are an early adopter (don't think anyone else has tried 45 ACP with this setup up to now).

I don’t think you’re remotely an early adopter of the system, I just think you picked the wrong lower, or lost the lottery from new frontier armory. I wish Endomags had something like their 9mm adapter for pmags for .45acp. Makes the lower issue way less of a concern.

Well that sucks. Does the bolt clear the feed ramps? Are there feed ramps in the lower?

File the top of the mag catch and see if you can get the mag to seat lower. The CMMG lower holds the mags lower than the New Frontier

I think the guy who told you to go with a New Frontier Armory lower should have to fix it haha.

Yep and this is 45 ACP.

Yep. Still. You can file about a 10th of an inch or so off the mag catch. I got it working in a Colt pattern lower. Here’s a comparison of the height of the Colt mag vs Glock mag.

It was worth a try, but no way this is going to work. Even after filing the mag catch down to a ridiculous small nub, :lol2: the bolt catches the follower in the empty mag coming out from the last round. You can see in the pic below how the tip of the follower is above where the lug seats home.

So after getting a new mag catch (this one is toast :D ), I will be forced to go the classic bolt carrier and barrel route. The good news is I can find a 12" barrel which will easily allow this to be made into an SBR.

It was still worth a try, no regrets.

    Damn.

Did you search to see if there is a compatible lower that is reasonably priced?

Hmm - good question. I suppose it would be less money just to find another lower; These are generally $150 and the to ship and get from the FFL another $40 or so, as opposed to spending $300 for a new BCG and barrel.
