I have had a Walther p22 for a while, the thing has always run like a champ and didn’t have any real problems other than being a PIA to reassemble. I keep it clean and have really only put maybe 1500 to 2000 rounds through it.
It recently started miss firing/not firing. Upon inspection, the firing pin does not appear to be resetting fully to the rear to allow the hammer to strike it.
After coming home from the range today I did a full disassembly of the slide (something I have never done) expecting to find either a busted firing pin or spring. Neither! The spring did appear to be slightly shorter than the picture in the “P22 bible” but nothing was broken.
So here’s the question. Does anyone have some ideas on what could have caused the sudden failure? A lot if interwebz forums say that the firing pin could be rubbing on the safety mechanism but I would have expected that problem to show up long before this.
