30F, sunny, and no wind, I decided for round 2. I ordered about 1200 rounds of cci mini mag 22lr, but unfortunately it hasn't been delivered yet. I purchased some cci blazer 38 grain 1235 fps and also brought Remington Thunderbolt high velocity 1235 fps ammunition. From what I can tell, the only difference between Blazer and Mini Mag is a copper plated bullet.

Starting with Remington, I loaded a magazine and chamber a round. It got jammed. Eject the round and fire off the rest with no issues. Of the 50 rounds, I had one light strike and 2 rounds that did not chamber. From my standard velocity test last week, it could have been a couple under powered rounds that caused the next in series to not be picked up.

I moved on to Blazer and shot off about 150 rounds. I had one jam loading the 1st round and had no other issues.
Over all I would call this 22lr upper a success. Like John, I'll come back to standard velocity ammo next time out and see if the BCG has been broken in enough to be functional.

I saw a press release that a 22mag upper will soon be released, but with the price of ammo, it doesn't seem worth it. Might as well shoot .223.

IMO a 22WMR bolt action upper would be cool.

Fantastic! Considering you even got the Golden Bullet to work at all is a success. I hate that stuff.

I suggest that you store the upper with the bolt locked back for a while. That will allow it to take a set and will aid it in running standard velocity ammo.

I've owned 22M rifles for years and the ammo was always too expensive to do anything but plink with it. I doubt that too many people will rip off 150 rounds of 22M these days. :sad20:

I am waiting for 40-50 degree weather before I try to do some accuracy checks as it is too damn cold out there for me.

Went back to the range today. I shot about 150 rounds. I had 3 light strikes and that was it. Only on CCI mini mag. CCI blazer had no issues. Shot about 75 of them. My accuracy sucks, but here's some results of 10 rnds at 25, 50, and 25 rnds at 100yds. (Essentially a 4" group with flyers) I was using a Bushnell TRS 25 red dot from a bench.

After shooting some more high velocity ammo and changing to a reduced power hammer spring mine is eating everything and hasn't had one malfunction. Winchester white box wouldn't even slow it down.

Going to order a 16" when finances permit.

Sirex is selling his 22lr upper in the classifieds.

BCA just released a new version of the 22lr with a charging handle (instead of a side charger), also the 22WMR has been released.

Yes, thank you. If anyone is interested, we can test it at the range. I haven't shot it yet, but want another 15-22, so I am selling this, and will probably sell my Rak 22 once I verify it works ok.

Going to Frankenstein this post with a range report.

Because I like old-school tang sights, I picked up the closest equivalent I could find, the Knights Armament 200-600M BUIS, which very much looks the part. Front sight is a steel Magpul BUIS. Also picked up brand-new CMMG magazines. This was put onto an AWB-era HBAR upper.

Went to an indoor range and ran the target all the way to the back. Ammo was CCI Mini-Mag "Varmint" with hollow points. Each magazine was filled and used twice. The results?

    * Had a couple of double feeds, which I could chalk up to brand-new everything

    * More annoying, I had several stovepipes in all magazines, sometimes it was a traditional stovepipe, other times, the spent casing got stuck in the action. The solution was to remove the magazine and re-seat to clear it.

    * Had one bone fide legitimate dud, which took four strikes after being fed four times and did not go off.

    * Two of the magazines did not hold open, not sure if they are still breaking in or what.

    * I really do like my sight combination. The good news is I was chewing up the paper in a fist-sized group at 75 feet. The bad news is that it was about 18 inches lower than the target. I tried to raise the front sight with no luck; was driving home when I realized I could've just raised the rear sight--D'oh!

    * After 200 rounds, it was *starting* to settle down, only one magazine was giving me more than one jam, and one didn't have any at all. I also got it pretty hot, and it still functioned (when it wasn't jamming) quite well.

So, am I thrilled to bits with the BCA .22lr upper? Nope. Am I glad I got it? Yes.

I have some used/rebuilt CMMG magazines I want to test next, as well as cranking up the rear sights to try and print in the black. I don't think I have the required skill set to seriously polish the ramp, but I can sure give it a good cleaning and hit it with some metal polish to see if it helps.

If you were hitting low, wouldn't you lower the front sight(same thing as raising the rear)?
