I hope all involved no matter how high are convicted of conspiracy to commit murder. Their thirst for power over the lives of peacable citizens by this agency has obviously cost many lives and it is time that this lawless agency is held to account and the guilty punished.

Problem with those cuts is they lay off the last people hired.

ATF hired three more NFA examiners last year. That raised the number from 9 to 12. They need at least 50.

Gunrunner is already on the chopping block as one of the budget cuts suggested. Project gunrunner is said to be hurting the most if the ATF budget is cut as planned.

Cuts threaten ATF's efforts to stem flow of guns south
    Washington Post

    From the article:

Deguerin [Attorney for Carter's Guns] says the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms asked Carter's Country to complete transactions, even when sales people strongly suspected the weapons were headed to Mexican drug gangs.

"They were told to go through with what they considered to be questionable sales. They were told to go through with sales of three or more assault rifles at the same time or five or more 9 millimeter guns at the same time or a young Hispanic male paying in cash. It's all profiling, but they went through with it," said Deguerin.

"They reported them promptly, either while the transaction was going on or soon there after. They did this for months and months and months. Went through with the sales because the ATF told them to go through with the sales," he added.

Deguerin say at the ATF's request, Carter's Country employees followed some customers into parking lots and recorded license plate numbers.

    I saw that earlier.

It's looking like a real effing mess down there. No way the owner of Carter's would jeopardize all of his shops without having info on the ATF request.

Will the Washington Post cover the story and link this to their previous article in which they nailed Carter's to the wall for transferring 115 arms found in Mexico?

    Saul Alinsky Rule #10

The major premise of tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition.

Or Emanuel's corollary: "You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it's an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before."

hmmmmm...... coincidence that this happened just before the stories of Obama's upcoming push for gun control ( that was omitted from the State of the Union address)???? Maybe he needed a couple more weeks to "build" his case....??? I hope he or his administration get tied to this...............

Even the WashPost "Hidden Life of Guns" team has begrudgingly picked up the story:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/02/01/AR2011020106366.html

(...)Court records do not indicate that the agents deliberately allowed weapons to cross the border into Mexico. On at least two occasions, agents stopped and seized arms shipments headed for the border.

Lone Wolf issued a statement in defense of the ATF, stating that the agents operated "in a very professional and proper manner."

The Fast and Furious case was one of the biggest gun trafficking cases since Project Gunrunner began in 2006. It was seen by the ATF as a response to criticism from the Justice Department's inspector general that the firearms bureau was bringing too many minor cases against straw purchasers, individuals who buy guns for others or traffickers. Every semi-auto black rifle is an AK-47 to the Washington Post, even if already identified in other press and by all knowledgeable participants as an AR-15.

They did try their best to gloss over the issue of ATF letting these guns go. Notice they ignored the chains who had more damning evidence in favor of one who said a single nice thing about ATF.

Notice the lead in identifies the weapons as being AK-47's while better than half way through the article the description changes to AK-47 type weapons.

Hopefully Grassley's inquiries will finally lead to ATF's demise.

The demise of the ATF would be a step in the right direction.

Simply rearranging the deck chairs under Homeland Security and Napolitano would be bad.
