I own one. A stoeger cougar 8040 . The company is owned by beretta and was concieved to keep berettas old models in production. They even went so far as to ship the machines and tooling to turkey to produce them. It is a beretta in every way but the name. The parts are interchangeable as well. If you watch a beretta review it can be taken that the same is true for stoegers.

Of course the beretta name garners more money for the same gun and now more so that beretta no longer makes them but otherwise are identical.

I like mine. Never had a issue with it in the last 2 years I have owned it.

Its not so much the beretta name, or lack there of, that makes them cheaper to buy, its the fact that materials, energy and labor cost less over there.

They produce some good guns over there, i really like the break action shotgun line...low cost, no BS work horse shotguns...may not be the best lookers, but you will be thankful for that when that after a hard days work.

After doing some research online, I recently put an M3500 on layaway. Lots of good reviews on it. Seems some of the early M2000s may have had some issues but many reviews say the newer versions works better. I also owned a Condor some years ago, only used it for trap and it worked just fine.

I have a Stoeger Cougar 9mm and it is all I could ask in that caliber. Ultra reliable. In hundreds and hundreds of rounds I know for sure of one fte, but I can't recall more than that one. It's size makes for a smooth shooting experience. Very accurate to 15 yards, at least for me.. Considerably less kick than my 380. There is nothing about that gun that I don't like.

Understood. To further this point. Online i see Stoeger/Benelli. Beretta as well? And of course i have no issue w Beretta. Except for the PX4 Storm, they do everything right.

I owned an M2000. Wouldn't cycle light loads. Ended up selling it and Bought an Escort also made in Turkey. No complaints at all with that gun.

Beretta owns Benelli who in turn owns Stoeger. However the Benelli umbrella (which also includes Franchi/Uberti/Stoeger) operates separately and mostly independent of the Beretta USA umbrella (Beretta/Sako/Tikka) despite sharing the location od their corporate offices. Thusly, Stoeger firearms must be sent to the Benelli service center.

ive got the 2000 as well, everyone says the same thing about that model... that it needs a break in period to be consistent. After my 2000 was broken in it will cycle anything at all you put in it and works perfectly!

Stoger is an Importer/ Distributor not a Mfg.

Long before being bought up , Stoger was a big time old school gun company carrying full lines of shooting and sporting equipment going back 100-ish years. At different points in time they have branded products from all over the world.

In recent years the breal action shotguns mainly are from Brazil , and much of the rest come from Turkey .

The Brazilian guns won't be mistaken for those costing 3 times as much, but most shooters find them as good or better than the Russian imports that are price competetive

Have a stoger condor competition (30"), have mixed feelings.

1.) build quality low. I took the stock off to clean the trigger assy, and the screw looked factory stripped. I barely got it tight enough to seat the wood, will never be coming off again. Forend has loosened on me also (wood seperating from metal latch part)

2.) trigger mechanism is reliable. I have only had it fail to reset once, probably my own fault. and I have a few thou through it.

3.) its heavy. take it for what it is, I like heavier guns.

4.) feels slightly cheap in the action department, nicer guns open smoother and feel much more quality/solidly machined.

with a good shooter there is no difference between it and a browning as far as breaking clays go, shotguns are basically boom sticks anyways. if you have the money, get a nicer one. I probably should have gone for a used older gun (it was 600 before fees) but I have had a few friends that had horror stories getting used shotguns. I like it all in all, and will shoot it until it dies. At that point, I'll either get a nicer one or not get anything based on where this country is headed.

A lil update....I LOVE MY STOEGER! Just had it out at the range on thursday, and a friend's prop on Saturday. Have not had another issue. The first spent shell I didnt eject soon enough at the property, expanded in the barrel and it took everything I had to eject it, but other than that, oh it's beautiful. Did a lil clay pigeoning, (i'm no good at it, yet) and even a lil combat style practice, and my shoulder isn't even sore(remeber, this is my very first time with a rifle/shotgun, ever). Hundreds of shells, couldn't be happier. After that first factory fix of course. But it's there now. Needless to say, when SHTF, drop me a line. I will be your Breechman/Combat Shotgunner. No problem. Model, Stoeger P350, Realtree APG, 5+1, Pump, SteadyGrip, 20.5'' w Turkey Choke, Red/Green Dot Scope. Ready for action! Now to my NEXT shotgun purchase.........still looking for the elusive Rem 870 Exp Tactical!

I have a Stoeger STF3000 O/U that probably doesn't have more than 200 rounds through it. I have sent it back TWICE, so far, for failing to fire (very light firing pin strikes) Since I got it back this last time I have about 100 rounds through it without a problem. Maybe they got it this time, I hope so.
I love the gun, it seems to fit me good and I do OK with it. But it's hard on your concentration when you don't trust the gun to go off!
