does anyone know how to re-install the factory rear sight on a MN-44? I took off the rear sight to install a scope mount, which I've since removed, and I'm not having any success at all in reinstalling the factory rear sight.

I've tried using a C-clamp to compress the leaf spring, and the sight keeps sliding rearward to the point that the pin hole doesn't line up.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers,
    Rob

I believe it is similar to a kar98 sight but I haven't played with one for twenty years.

Push down on the front of the leaf spring with a thin screwdriver. While doing this with the left hand, push the sight horizonally towards the muzzle with the right hand. When you reach the end of travel, pull the screw driver out and the bosses on the side of the sight should pop into the recesses on the base. You can then insert the pin.

If you do use a C-clamp make sure that you don't clamp the leaf so much that it bends.

thanks Gents - I'll give this a try. The way this spring it sitting, it looks like it's too long for the socket it sits in, yet I know it's the one that came out of there

That was the ticket, John THANKS!

Apparently a small bit of "crud" [Russian technical term] had found its way into the groove the rear of the spring fits into and was keeping it from seating properly.

    Problem solved!

    All the best,
    Rob
