Looking to get into 3-gun. Have the rifle (AR15) already. Not sure about the pistol but have a M&P9. So, that leaves me needing a decent semi-auto shotgun.

Any suggestions as to a good semi-auto shotgun for 3-Gun competitions that don't cost me my son's college tuition? I am getting into 3-Gun for fun. Not too worried about making a national name for myself.

    Thanks,

    Dave

How much are you looking to spend? Out of the box, the Mossberg JM edition and FN SLP Mark 1 are both good choices. If your pockets overflow, you could always go with the Benelli M2 3 Gun Edition.

There's a big price discrepancy between the Mossberg and the FN. That's why I mentioned the Stoeger, it's $799, and built with 3-gun in mind. And according to some folks here, the Mossberg needs some work before it's up to snuff for 3-gun.

Too bad there isn't a Competitive Shooting section here  . BTW, I asked a similar question earlier this year, but I had about $1200 to spend on it and I asked what all the cool kids in 3-gun use. I ended up getting an FN SLP for $1150, it cost me $1200 after shipping and transfer.

I use the Mossberg JM Pro 930, 9 shot model. Runs awesome, I've had 1 double feed in about 1,000 rounds.

I've seen a lot of problems out of the Benelli's in the last few matches I have attended. The Mossberg is half the price.

Do you know what flavor of Benelli had problems?

One thing I don't like about dealing with Benellis is when configuring it for 3-gun, you'll have to start dealing with 922r. Whereas, with the other shotguns mentioned, you can make changes all you want and not have to deal with swapping OEM parts for new ones.

At least one of the problems with the Benelli was mixing brands of 12ga ammo in the same tube. Shooting all the same brand solved it.

I've also heard the JM Pro's are hit or miss, but I have never seen anyone having trouble with them. Seems like everyone has either the Benelli or the JM for matches.
