    Hello all,

New member just getting started trying to navigate the waters of Gun Ownership in MD. I live in Waldorf and my wife and I are both retired military. She was Army I was Navy. We have a 9 Year Old Daughter as well.

Trying to get a handle on all the laws, training and issues with general ownership as well as a carry permit which I understand is nearly impossible to get in the state.

    Welcome.

Ownership isn't impossible. CCW is nearly impossible.

To get a firearm you need to have a Handgun Qualifying License, (HQL).

With your military record (DD214) you can get the HQL without training. You still need to send in finger prints, (approx. $60), along with you application and $50. It's a scam, but you just have to play along.

RETIRED military is HQL exempt (no fingerprints or $50 application as mentioned above). If you didn't retire and only finished an enlistment, then the above applies. Same for retired law enforcement (Maryland or federal agencies only, though).

PM me if anyone wants information on LEOSA credentials for retired/active/former military.
