“Ultimately, we expect we will see community spread in this country,” the CDC said.

Federal health officials on Tuesday warned schools and businesses to prepare for a nationwide spread of the novel coronavirus that has killed more than 2,700 people worldwide.

The CDC has issued a warning to prepare for it:

I thought a separate thread dedicated to preparing for the virus and actions we as individuals can take to prevent the spread and mitigate the severity would help make finding answers easier to find.

I will kick it off with a question for our medical experts because getting an appointment within a couple of days of showing symptoms may be impossible if there are a lot of cases.

Is Tamiflu (oseltamivir) and/or Relenza (zanamivir) something that at risk people should have on hand in case they develop symptoms?

For people with actual medical knowledge... what are peoples opinions about getting the pneumonia vaccine? Its normally recommended for older/sicker people, but it seems like the mortality for this is closely associated with the pneumonia, the vaccine may help with that?

The flu has killed 16,000 people this year, hospitalized over a quarter million and affected 29 million people in the US.

Often people can get a bacterial pneumonia super-imposed on a viral pneumonia. I would recommend it for older/sicker people.

    Prep list:
    1. Rice
    2. Dried beans
    3. Ammo
    4. Wire coat hangers
    5. Division SHD morale patches

    6. Baofeng radio
    7. Ozark Trail tumbler

    8. Shovel.

I'm not counting on a vaccine being available anytime soon, so I'm planning to treat the symptoms when I get infected. (have kids in public school ... The Boy will no doubt bring it home from his snot-nosed peers.)

Antihistamines, decongestants, expectorants ... avoiding cough suppressants. Might need to get a bottle of brandy or whiskey to help the medicine go down.

we are horrible at risk assessment - in real life you are much more likely to die commuting to or from work than from any disease. That doesn't mean the virus isn't a threat, it just isn't as much of a threat to you as traffic or even medical malpractice.

Heard someone on TV say CDC is reporting a vaccine is three months out and who knows how long before adequate distribution could be made.
