    Hey all,

I currently have a Utah CC permit. I am planning on moving to Virginia in the next year or so.

Is there any advantage to applying for a non resident VA permit now, then "converting" it to resident once I move, vs applying as a resident later? Not sure how the Utah permit fits into all this either.

    thanks for any advice!

Not really, unless you specifically want it to carry in VA school zones.

VA already accepts UT nonresident. You just won’t have the federal exemption to the Gun Free School Zones.

VA nonresident permits already took about six months before COVID anyway, and they require fingerprints. VA resident permits can take a little as a few days to issue depending on the jurisdiction. My Fairfax County was 13 days in 2015 and the renewal last summer was a bit over 30 days.

The only issue I had when I stayed in NoVA around the Chantilly area is the fact it seemed a school was within in a stones throw of every major road. So I got a VA non-resident due to BGOS and was worried if I ever had a vehicle breakdown and was unknowingly near a school I would be good.
