Thought I would throw this out for some help.

I inherited an old double barrel. Sorry no photos

    What I know:
    1. Muzzleloader, its a hammer and cap gun
    2. side by side double
    3. Bottom of the Left barrel has a proof mark "Single Oval inside is "E" at the top "L.G." under it, then a star below that.
    4. To the right and above of the oval stamp is a stamp of a small "Star with an X" below it.
    5. Directly above the oval is a 16 or 1.6 stamp.

    Right barrel
    1. stamp that looks like "16.6"
    2. Stamp small "Star over a T or I" cant tell which letter
    3. What appears to be another 16

I will try to add some photos tomorrow or sunday.

Thanks been trying to upload a few photos no luck yet.

Yeah that's the Belgian proof mark. I'm guessing Damascus barrels? If it is not signed it's probably not worth much more than a wall hanger.

They are good for making noise with BP on New Years and Independence Day. Don't put shot in it though.

You read my thoughts. I used to do that each year with my BP 50 cal. However, was also thinking of sending off a salute on the the last owners birthday with this one. It has past this year but next.

I don't know what the gauge is though.

It doesn't matter. Just put 50 grains of powder, 20 grains of corn meal and pack a wad of dry toilet paper on top. It will work just like a wad.

i have an 8 gauge side by side double barrel percussion shotgun. Proofed in Birmingham, England and marked to a William Harris of Birmingham, 1838-1855. Amazingly heavy. Want to try it out sometime with some no. 1 shot.

Haven't pulled it out of the safe, but I think the barrels are about 28" long. I think that would be too short to be a punt gun.
