Not a surprise. FM/PWS was the OEM for the BRN-180. I assume this is a simplified version that's more "AR15-like".

This is a serious game changer if priced semi-reasonably.

How it is a game changer?
No one else has a widely available and affordable AR-15 side folder that lets you shoot while it's folded. EWS' solution isn't quite vaporware, but it's on a long, long backorder. The Sig MCX kits are rather expensive, and are hard to find.

Since it's over a year old, the wife's FM must be a gen 1? What did they do different on the gen 2, hers has been a good one so far.

To the best of my knowledge, this is their first 5.56 product. So, "Gen 2" refers to a Gen 2 AR-15....

It looks awesome, definitely not the same mechanism as the BRN 180. This one is DI, coax recoil springs, non-reciprocating forward side charger. Probably 10 or 15 years ago there was a design for an AR15 ish rifle that was still DI, but essentially the gas tube was fixed to a short BCG and acted as a guide rod for a recoil spring under the handguard, good design, allowed a folding stock, DI operation and easy gas adjustments with less gas blowback when run suppressed. Can't remember the company or name of it, know they went out of buisness a short time after. I suspect this one is pretty close, that was also a side charger IIRC, the non reciprocating handle was attached to an outer spring guide tube that also helped shield the support hand from gas vented out of the gas block. Would LOVE to see the mechanism on this one. An inexpensive side folder that can fire folded it pretty cool, but if it handles gas well when suppressed, and has lower recoil from a lightweight DI system, it could be awwesome.

So here are the nuts and bolts, it's stupid simple. Basically coax recoil springs and inner guide rod ride in the top of the receiver, the charging handle tube is the outer guide rod, and non-reciprocating. The rear of the BCG is not needed and removed, it's DI with a conventional tube and gas key under the guide rod/springs. Pretty simple and ingenious, would probably use very little gas, but might have issues with a large range of port pressures without an adjustable gas block, being the carrier is so light, and lacks a buffer/floating weights to prevent bolt bounce.
