Not the first rail gun ever of course but perhaps we're getting closer to powderless firearms.

Arcflash Labs Just Made A Handheld Gauss Rifle, and It’s For Sale (Field and Stream)

A shoulder-fired Gauss gun is a big deal, and ArcFlash Labs will sell you one for $3775. The ANVIL rifle is the most powerful handheld Gauss rifle ever offered to the public. However, since we are in the infancy of the technology, that means a 20-pound rifle (20 pounds without battery, that is) fires its 12mm steel projectile at a muzzle velocity of about 275 fps, producing 65 foot-pounds of energy.

About the same energy as a .22 short. An interesting toy for now, but the concept (a handheld consumer gauss gun) is still cool IMHO.

The largest impediment is the energy storage density of capacitors right now. Absent major break through the small improvements are going to mean a long time before electromechanical weapons superseded chemical energy weapons. Some day probably. Just not some day soon

Will be banned in 5…4…3.. by the usual culprit states in an attempt to keep it from becoming “commonly used”
