    Not sure this qualifies for C&R but thought it might be a good place for it. MIL gradually goes through things stored in her basement and finds interesting things my FIL had. Its a wooden box marked for 50 practice rifle grenades. No actual grenades inside, just old maps and papers. On the front lower left its labeled as packed 7 - 42, so I'm thinking that could mean July 1942. I thought it was pretty given that it looks like a WWII era item. Not sure how he got it. He was stationed in Germany near the end of WWII. He brought some other things back as well, maybe used this as a crate to pack them in.

    Nice patina, would be a cool man-cave item. I did a quick search and couldn’t find any online references. Does it have internal partitions (assume no) in it?

    I think the crate would have contained the grenade and holder. The spindle mounts on the barrel of an M1Garand and blank cartridges are used to launch the grenade. With live loads the holder would be destroyed of course. Tiles are 12x12. fred55

    No partitions, but he may have removed them at some point to make it more suitable for storing things. The link below from a website called Quest Masters Museum has a couple that are the same basic box design and hinge type but are labeled for other things.
