    Done $50

I want to put this back near the top. It might not work, but let’s see.

What if everyone who reads this got on and donated $10, even the people who donated already. Let’s see if we could get $10 every five minutes. Even the visitors may see how much we care about each other and donate too. Then they may join our forum, they could put in their introduction that they donated to our founder. Those are the kind of people we want right?

    I’ll start..... $10 @ 7:15

    Let’s see where it goes.

Patriots from the Revolutionary War were given their Funeral Mass here, and are buried in the adjoining church yard and burial ground.

George Washington attended services at the Old Presbyterian Meeting House next door, founded in 1772, which shares the church yard and burial ground.

All of the following images of the funeral Mass for Don were made with the permission of Don’s sisters, and are posted here to Maryland Shooters with the encouragement of Don’s parents, who thank all Maryland Shooters members for their extraordinary kindness and generosity.

The pall bearers carried Don’s flag-draped casket from the hearse into the narthex, where the American Flag was removed and folded, before the casket was shrouded for the funeral Mass with the funeral pall, ornamented with a Christian cross.

The pall serves as a reminder of the white baptismal garments a new Christian wears as he or she is welcomed into the fellowship of believers within the church; in the Catholic faith no other symbols are allowed on, or near, the casket during the Mass.

When a Catholic family brings their loved one into the church to celebrate the Mass of Christian burial, the priest meets them at the back of the sanctuary to welcome their loved one, one last time, into the fellowship of believers.

The priest said a blessing over the casket; upon completion of the blessing, the pall is placed upon the casket, symbolizing the white garments the individual would have worn at the time of his or her baptism.

The pallbearers accompanied the casket through the nave to the transept, followed by the family, led by Don’s father, with his arm around his granddaughter.

The entire funeral Mass, as noted elsewhere, was live-streamed and may be viewed here:

At the conclusion of the funeral Mass, the casket was again covered with the American Flag, and the pallbearers carried the casket out to the hearse for the procession to Ivy Hill Cemetery in Alexandria, Virginia.

Deep Lurker, thanks for all this - the pictures, the background context, and sharing what happened at the funeral Mass. I'm glad you were able to attend.

Given my own sadness, I was deeply grateful for the opportunity to receive the blessing of just being there, the many words of spiritual comfort intended for Don Foster’s family and friends were exceptionally meaningful to me, and it was an honor to attend his magnificent religious service.

I approached the family after the funeral Mass to express my condolences, mentioning that although I did not have an opportunity to meet Don in person, I had read literally hundreds of heartfelt remembrances from those who were his close friends and associates from Maryland Shooters, and from those stories I learned a great deal about Don’s exceptional character and integrity from the almost countless number of his friends there.

When I spoke with each of his family members, the words that instantly brought tears to all of them were: “Although I didn’t know Don personally, I do know that Don will forever be a legend at Maryland Shooters.”

They all expressed gratitude and amazement at what Maryland Shooters had become, and what Maryland Shooters gave to Don in return.

Attendees of the funeral Mass were invited to join the family at the gravesite for Don’s burial service.

    Burial Service for Don Foster

In attending the burial service I again inquired of Don’s sisters Amber and April if I could record images of Don’s burial service with military honors, to share with the family later.

They were grateful for the opportunity to have them, and later when I spoke with Don’s parents they also endorsed the idea of sharing these images with the Maryland Shooters community.

They wanted to share them with the many who knew and admired Don, but who could not be there today, and to have them recorded and maintained for posterity within the website he founded.

Don’s sisters worked around the clock to obtain the documentation necessary to give Don the burial he so richly deserved: military honors.

They never wavered in their struggle to overcome the typical roadblocks and bureaucratic delays which can cause this process to take months; it is no surprise to me after meeting them today that they achieved the impossible in less than a week; Don received military honors today.

To give you some idea of their determination and fortitude: when they were done they had spoken not only to both their US Senators but to the Secretary of the Navy.

Ivy Hill Cemetery is a spectacularly beautiful place.

I work on Duke Street near the Duke Street Metro. One of the buildings for my company is called Carlyle- which is on Carlyle. I have attended that Catholic Church for Ash Wednesday. Beautiful. Thanks, my friend for the updates and pics. Prayers again to Don's family. Still cannot believe it.
