Are AR-15 Rifles a Public Safety Threat?

How many murders involve rifles like the AR-15?
If we take the time to look at the raw data provided by the FBI, we find that all rifles, not just “assault-style rifles,” constitute on average 340 homicides per year from 2007 through 2017 (see Figure 1.). When we adjust these numbers to take under-reporting into account, that number rises to an average of 439 per year.

Figure 2 compares rifle homicides to homicides with other non-firearm weapons. Believe it or not, between 2007 and 2017, nearly 1,700 people were murdered with a knife or sharp object per year. That’s almost four times the number of people murdered by an assailant with any sort of rifle.

In any given year, for every person murdered with a rifle, there are 15 murdered with handguns, 1.7 with hands or fists, and 1.2 with blunt instruments. In fact, homicides with any sort of rifle represent a mere 3.2 percent of all homicides on average over the past decade.

We live in the Age of Emotion, where opioid deaths every two weeks is equal to a 747 crashing in America, with bus loads of teens being maimed and killed while texting every week.

But they want to focus on EBRs...

All very accurate and very true. Good luck getting an anti-2a proponent to listen to or acknowledge any of that because:. It is a logical arguement. Those who want to ban guns do so not because it makes sense to, but because black rifles are scary.

You know what? I really don't think that's the whole (or even the most) of it. They want to ban them BECAUSE YOU DON'T. In the same way that Democrats solidly behind and making speeches for years in favor of a physical border barrier are suddenly claiming that Trump is immoral for wanting the same thing for the same reasons ... it's pure tribal hatred. If people who don't happen to like Nanny State socialism and an atmosphere of cultural PC tyranny happen to also personally like the right to keep and bear arms, then without any need for further analysis, guns must be evil. Because of the people who want to own them. They think you are a deplorable monster, generally, so anything that differentiates you from them is intolerable (and probably racist, too, for good measure). Guns are the pure, distilled, 100% embodiment of everything they hate about YOU, hence the constructed narrative and profound myopia about simple facts as laid out in the OP's link. As long as they hate you, the gun sideshow isn't going away.

They are a threat to my wallet because they keep multiplying at my house...

Too bad we don't have a good study as to why grabbers want to grab - I'm talking about individual reasons categorized.

Are grabbers just so immature that they're driven by emotions?

I did a paper on ebr while in college. It hovers around 2% of gun murders involve ebr. All the info came from the fbi and cdc yearly reports. Most years, it’s under 2%. This went back to where they began to keep track of the ebr compared to “normal” rifles

They are only a threat to the people in a position to take them from us. Which is exactly why we have the Second Amendment. Texting teens and opioid addicts may kill more people, but they are not a threat.

heard/read it somewhere, but with x (what's the number, 1 million, 10 million, more?) MILLIONS of AR's, and really all other guns, out there, if there was a REAL problem, it would be pretty obvious.

and you have to ask, if they're really trying to save lives, why not ban alcohol and cell phones, with all the drunk and distracted driving deaths out there? hmmm...

Simply fear of the unknown (to them) and a steadfast unwilling to look at the facts and learn, closed minds are what scare me.

Libs do not fear reprisal from opioids, alcohol, and texting. They do fear reprisals from the sane people who believe in the COTUS, especially the 2A. Anything to stop any stumbling block to their ultimate end game of Gubbmint power over us. If they were not scared of us, they would not be fighting for ultimate removal.

I agree with all of the foregoing, but I wanted to add that power plays into it as well. The moms/David Hogg exemplify it well. It’s got to be intoxicating when legislators start enacting your bills into law and billionaire sugar daddies start bankrolling you. All of these people equally believe that drastic action is needed to fight “climate change”, but they focus on guns because that is where they have power.

Yup. And people should ask themselves what their end game is. The left won't stop at gun control.

google is your friend, I am not.
Number of murders per year involving rifles: 340

Number of people shot and killed by law enforcement per year: about 1000 (see here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/national/police-shootings-2017/)

Clearly, law enforcement is a public safety problem and needs to be banned.

Yet, when gun grabbers write gun laws they always carve exceptions and make sure law enforcement is more heavily armed than residents. Funny, that.
