Having spent significant time underground in a Minuteman bunker, you don't want an underground bunker. It will always be too cold and damp for one thing...

My choice would be renovating a munitions bunker instead.

What Pinecone has started asking .

Back in the day , it was all about nuclear , with parts of Md worried about blast in addition to fallout . Presumably not so much today .

So presumably to discreetly hide out during " civil unrest" then ?

At main residence or the remote Undisclosed Location ? One is inherently safer , but unless you are constantly bugging out at the smallest hint of trouble , the chances are high of getting trapped in gridlock once the actual S H'es T F .

Be moderately hidden to avoid being obvious to a single pass by a mob ?

Be seriously hidden from searchers actually looking for you ?

Be hardened to resist entry attempts and/ or attempts to harm you inside bunker ?

Withstand having the house ( or other structure) burned down on top of the bunker ?

Yeah , something is probably comparitively better than nothing , but you can't be protected against everything on a smaller scale than something like Raven Rock .

Just spit balling a few idea here... So you need people to keep away? Become a serial murder. Stash a few bodies in the freezer. When SHTF? Toss em out in the lawn.. People will not linger there.

That is where I would want my bunker.

Yeah, but if you build a bunker at a rural home, everyone in town will know that you are 'the guy with the bunker'. If you just buy a little house, keep it in good repair and remain friendly with the neighbors, nobody would even know where to find you when the troubles start.

Now, you could do what the weirdo in Bethesda did and get yourself some slaves to quietly hand-dig a bunker. But that didn't work too well either.

Until BLM gets heavy artillery, investing in a bunker seems at best a unwise allocation of resources.

True. It's clearly intended for use as a storage bunker to secure your stuff, would not be ideal as a panic room or shelter.

Now that the knucklehead put it on YouTube, anyone knows where the loot is and what simplex lock protects it.
You want to secure your shit build a vault with a proper vault door. And even that can be breached by anyone with tools , knowledge and time.

Basically the bunker becomes geothermally regulated. So 59 degrees.

And the big issue is humidity control. People breath out water vapor. Although, you might be able to recover that, and end up with augmenting your water supply.
