    Hello,
I have the opportunity to pick up a 1917 Luger Erfurt pistol in very nice shape. Does any one know or recommend Luger expert or a gunsmith that could look it over and possibly give me an approximate value?
    TIA!

I can't recommend anyone but what are they asking for it? It may be a no brainer depending on price. Keep in mind as with any collectable condition is key, is it matching, including small parts, if even one doesn't it significantly reduces price. Can you post pics there are several people on here that could give you some idea on price.

-Totally matching is the key to top dollar with a Luger. That means you'll need to perform a field strip and then some to verify if it matches. If the magazine is numbered and matches that's as good as it gets as matching mags are pretty uncommon. Obviously condition is also a major factor. All too many Lugers are found refinished and that kills value.
Also note that DWM generally commands more than Erfurt (DWN building to a higher level of quality).

"All too many Lugers are found refinished and that kills value." amen!

Lugers are an area where you really need to be on your toes.

Thanks for all the good info. The numbers are all matching even the mag.

From the photos you def. have an original finish that's in 80-85 point condition. Would want a more complete set of photos but working with this I'd swag the rig in the mid teens, assuming the holster is in good condition. IMHO $1300-1500.

Thank you for the info. I can take better pics if that would help. Not sure if I want to keep it. I am more more likely going to try and sell it.. I could put it in the classifieds here but don’t know what is a fair price for buyer and seller.

You may be better off sending it to Legacy or Simpson on consignment, they have a wider client base and can help you price it as well.
Plus they know a lot about them and can point out the pros and cons.
    Just my opinion :)
