  • Can you guys recommend a brand of 5.56 NATO ammo that does not contain a metal jacket that I can buy at Cabelas during this sale? The reason is that I was not allowed to use the metal jacketed 5.56 NATO ammo that I took with me to The Machine Gun Nest. They placed a magnet on my green tip ammo and when it attracted the cartridges, they told me that it was not allowed. So now I need to purchase a different type of ammo in order to shoot at TMGN. Thanks for your advice.

The green tip rounds have the steel "pentrator" tip which can tear up their backstop on the lane. You probably want to get some M193 5.56 (55 gr ball) with a copper jacket (no bimetal jacket) The copper jacketed lead core rounds are not magnetic. An example of this on Cabelas would be the American Eagle XM193.

It's not the jacket that is magnetic. Its the steel core in the green tip "penetrator" ammo. Get M193 and you are good. Or any bulk brass .223
