And with it, the first full term of Justice Neil Gorsuch, and rumored to be the last of Justice Kennedy and maybe another Ruth Bader Ginsberg (?).

Will DJT soon have another seat to fill? What impact will this term have on the 2A and on the entire Bill of Rights that makes this country exceptional? We'll start to find out in 3-2-1.

    Stuck in MoCo ...
We can only hope Kennedy and Ginsburg depart.

That would make for a SCOTUS where I could sleep at night again.

But it would likely hasten the arrival of the Second Civil War, where States secede from the East and Left Coast Americas

Kennedy and Ginsburg resigning in 2018 would be very interesting, and very bad.

Talk about lighting a fire under the left to come out in the 2018 elections, and the left could potentially use the Republican's logic against them, and argue that Trump should hold off making a pick until after the election, although with the nuclear option defused and disarmed, it's probably not as big an issue.

if Kennedy does retire, trump needs to make a decision immediately. The longer he waits, the more flak he will take about waiting till after the election, which we all know what the results will be.

Also, the way mid terms may go, his majority may be gone, and if it is, the democrats will do everything they can to not approve his appointee.

Ginsburg, would rather die in office than retire under trump, the left knows this too. I'd bet they are damn near begging her to stay as long as she can.

The President likely already has a short list should any Justice depart. It would be a matter of updating it depending on circumstances...who is desired or available for the position.
Agreed. Although it is actually safer for the GOP voters to have the Senate do whatever it takes, including nuclear, to get the next justice sworn in before the elections rather than have it be a huge campaign issue, remember both parties' essential reason d'etre is fundraising and having the election be about a court seat probably means hundreds of millions more in campaign and advocacy funding.

You got to remember everyone in DC ruling class, be they politicians, adovacy groups, campaign workers, campaign service companies and gurus, and of course the RNC and DNC all make more money with divisive issues at play.

Let's keep in mind Kennedy is generally thought to likely not support forcing shall issue. And this split between circuits is not as compelling as other types of splits.

As far as him retiring, yes there are rumors, but one cannot also escape the fact that he is by far the most powerful and important justice on the court since he is the deciding vote in all contended cases. humans do like power.

SCOTUS members will be going anywhere.

Especially after last nights shooting in Las Vegas.

They will want to be there to voice their anti-gun opinions should 2A cases make their way to them.

It's an annual guessing game whether Kennedy is going to retire. This is nothing new.

The political types in DC (and elsewhere)...both parties (but one is the major offender in this regard)...for the most part aren't interested in solutions, they're interested in issues to hammer the other side with. Without issues they can't fundraise, or turn out the voters. Demonization is the method...make the other side the devil and at least some segment of the voting population will run scared and vote against them.

Look at the Democrat Party...they've been promising the minority groups for generations to make life better for them and have never delivered. They need to keep them down so they can keep feeding them promises and blame the Republicans for their lack of equality. For their part, the Republicans don't respond in any effective manner or respond with Socialism Light to try and make nice.
