Most of these links worked a few weeks ago. Even if a jurisdiction is not actively recruiting at the moment, they have a notification list that people can be added to for when recruitment becomes active.

In Baltimore County, many volunteer fire companies hire EMTs, Paramedics, Firefighters and Drivers to work as part time staff to help cover times when volunteers are unavailable due to things like work. There's no central hiring, each company does their own hiring and sets their own pay, but for someone looking for a part time job, they tend to pay pretty decently if you want to do this kind of work on the side and not deal with private ambo. Also, I don't know of any that involve overnights. So check with the various fire companies if you are interested.

Any young person who may be interested in this would be well advised to get their EMT card in the volunteer system. In some of the larger departments it pretty much is a hiring pre-req. They are noticing that many of the street hires flunk that part of the academy making all the effort to recruit and screen them a waste.
Lots of positions opening up in DC, MoCo PG and on the VA side. Good way to get a pension in your 40s, and most of the time, nobody is shooting at you before you get there.

    Pension in the 40s.

This is so key. I know some speak down on this. Government jobs, etc.

It is a rarity. If one can get in and do the career with some enjoyment.. it is very wise to pursue.
